Thumbs up Saw the Neurologist

I saw my Neurologist yesterday and had the muscle and nerve tests done, with the exception of the needles. He said he wouldn't torture me like that as he got the results with the zapper instead!! Man that hurt!!

Anyway.. the results of my MRI came back and it shows that I have one disc out of place on my S1 where it is compressing a nerve, but he said that is NOT what is causing the neuropathy. I just have to take it easy and I will have physical therapy scheduled after my plastic surgery. He actually is glad that I am having a tummy tuck and breast lift as he said this may help my back as well. I just have to be careful with that and not lift anything too heavy or bend too much as it could cause the disc to slip the rest of the way out of place and put me down! I just can't have that. Some abdominal exercises are out now, which really ticks me off.. but what can I do?? grrrr

The neuropathy is caused from my vitamin levels being too low and is more than likely irreversable at this point.. so I go on with my life.. no problem. The reglan and/or the neuropathy could both be triggering my tremmors .. but he said more than likely it is the neuropathy that is causing them because I have stopped the reglan.

So that is where I stand.. I am glad I have a reason that my back hurts so bad in my lower back but really kind of scared about that disc being out of place.. that should be real fun when we are moving this weekend.. no worries.. it's all good.. I'll take it easy and get a bunch of people together to help me out.

Girl

You best not be moving heavy things or I'll have to kick your butt. I'll talk to my honey tonight to see if he has anything else planned for us and if not we'll be there to help. I should be home a little after 6 tonight so I'll call you and let you know what he has in mind. We have to find someone to buy my bed so that's what is going to hold us and our moving things up. I don't want to just move it I want to sell it because I want someone to see it set up.

Love you

TAKE IT EASY

Bridget,

The numbness may never go away from your TT. Just a thought, I had a laporotomy several years ago (a C-Section cut) and it is still numb there. When they cut the nerves, they simply don't grow back. It's all good though, no pain .. hehehe

Dale & Kim.. Love you guys.. thanks for everything..

Sweet Christina,

I love your positive attitude...when things don't go as planned....your glass is always half full.

There is an old saying --- "When things get tough, the tough get going"....you are one tough chick. As you said in your message..."It's all good." We can all learn from your attitude.

You are in my thoughts & prayers.

Christina and Bridget—

Neuropathy—geez that sounds serious. I just checked out WebMD for more information on this condition, but couldn’t really find much on it, except that it’s linked to diabetes. Are you diabetic? Can you tell me more about neuropathy? You say it's due to your vitamin levels being too low--Is it a condition that I will suffer when I have WLS? If so, is it still worth it? I mean, I want to feel my toes…

Thumbs up Neuropathy

Marta,

Bridget and I have differenty types of neuropathy so therefore we have different symptoms. Yes, usually diabetics get the disease, however it can effect anyone. I was diagnosed as being diabetic right before I went for surgery, therefore I don't believe it was the cause and neither does the Neurologist. My vitamin levels being so low are the cause of the Neuropathy. Can you get a deficiency after WLS? You sure can. That is why you must make sure and take your vitamins like you are supposed to. Bridget and I are both guilty of neglecting that and now we are paying the price. Can you still get a deficiency even if you take your vitamins like you are supposed to? You sure can, that is why it is important to get your blood work done so you can be on top of things.

Is it worth it anyway? You betcha! I don't have numbness in my toes, I don't know the type of neuropathy Bridge has or how it effects her. Mine sounds different though. My large muscle fibers are in tact and working properly so that made my Neurologist happy. The small fibers are the ones that are bad and that is a direct result of the WLS and the vitamin deficiency. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat if I had to. My life is so much happier than it ever was before. It was and is all worth it. So I have tremmors at night and at rest, so what. It hurts sometimes to shave my legs.. big deal.. At least I CAN shave my legs now!! LOL My legs no longer fall asleep from being up on the stool thing in the shower too long to shave anymore.. so that's a good thing right?

I wish you the best of luck and remember take the vitamins.. they aren't joking..
