Default Hair loss...how much did you lose?

I know that hair loss is common, but I ask how much people lost because I had cancer last year and just now have a head full of hair again! Don't get me wrong...I would have the surgery even if it meant going bald again, but I wanted to get some idea on how much hair you lost. 1/2 of it?? A couple of brushes full? Or just a covered drainful when washing hair?

I thought it wouldn't matter much to me, but it's something that bothers me - I lost probably almost half the volume of my hair, since I had surgery 2 years ago. It has tapered a tiny bit, but I still have hair all over the bathroom floor... I am a hairdresser, too, so maybe that's why it bothers me? Who knows... but it's extremely common. Surgeons and "experts" don't have a common consensus about WHY, be it protein loss, malnutrition or the anesthesia, but I think it's definitely a side-effect of GBS.

But It's been a great journey, and I have lost alot of weight, and feel better than ever. Good luck to you!

Default Fortunate one

So far I've lost no hair. Most of the women I know that have had the surgery have not lost any either. Perhaps this is another unknown area.

Given your concerns, I'd be especially diligent in taking your multivitamin (I take a prenatal) and B-12 shots/supplements.

Best wishes!

Janelle, so far not really after 3.5 months post-op, I have a bit more hair in the brush and after washing them, but not dramatic. Key is that, in addition to the vitamins, as mentioned above, I really put emphasis on proteins daily intake.

Lets see how it continuous

My hair loss started at 3-4 months and it was a generalized thinning, drain clogging type. I noticed the difference as well as my hairdresser, but no one else. It peaked at about 6 months, regrowth starting at 9 months and by 2 years I am back to normal. Even better, my hair texture totally changed. I don't know if it is the new regrowth or all the crap I used to eat.

An annoying problem, that is all it was for me.

Ok Honestly.... I cried everytime I took a shower.... I had thin hair to begin with and my hair litterally fell out by the handfulls..... Thankfully it is all growing back ... now I have a bunch of hair about 2 inches long... it looks silly but at least its growing back..... I also was unable to eat any type of meat for the first 3 months and was not the best when it came to drinking my protein shakes so Im sure that had a lot to do with it..... But let me tell ya.... even if I went completly bald for a while I would do it all over again..... This surgery was the best decision I ever made!!!
