Not Thirsty, Not Hungry... Advice Please
3 weeks post-op, feeling wonderful and more agile.
My surgeon in Belgium does his lap RNY slightly differently than in the US -
I had my first soft meal within 72 hours of surgery and have continued the food/eating pattern. BUT
I'm no longer thirsty... don't like water, tea no longer tastes nice...
Not hungry for soups, purees or ground/grated food, however superbly well chewed...
After 2nd tablespoon of nutritional "clean" home-cooking, feel like I have swallowed a cardboard cube which has lodged itself under my ribcage...
Am eating small amounts v. slowly. Clear half-hour before and after meals for liquids...
Also, happy, loved, supported, sleep like a baby for 7 hours but am too awake to go to bed/sleep before 2-3 am....
Well aware of essential importance of hydration / water intake and proteins, veg, carb, sip, chew, walk...
Have lost 14 pounds in 3 weeks...
Many thanks for your recommendations!
Cheers!
Vim... and but eternally

I had issues with my pureed stage (3 weeks). Hunger wasn't an issue then - still isn't at just over 13 weeks. I just eat by the clock (and weigh and record everything).
You have to keep trying Vim - just do the best you can. I had days when all I could handle was my protein drinks but I made them with ff milk and added some ff milk powder.
As for the drinking - you have to push that. Even now I can't stand water. We have a product here called Crystal Light. It's a powder that you add to water to flavour it. It comes in a variety of flavours.
Mint and/or spearmint tea, chamomile, rosehip - I used all those. Anything I could to get my fluid inside. You just have to experiment.
I'm a little concerned about you feeling "a cardboard cube" though - maybe someone with more experience can help on that one.
3-5 weeks was my worst time.

I'm at 8 weeks and feel no hunger either. From what I hear it lasts anywhere from 6 months to 1 year - it's called the honeymoon period. I eat 3 small meals a day to sustain my life, not because I'm hungry.
I know it's really hard to get all the liquid in, especially in the beginning, but you really need to try the best you can. You don't want to become dehydrated.

Thanks Corrine and Dawn!
I will now go to bed *2 am!* tucked up with your kind reassurance and good advice! Mug of chamomile on my way upstairs! Many thanks!

Vim, when I told my surgeon (sometime in the general time you are in right now) that I couldn't get all my fluids and protein in, he said "do the best you can." That took the pressure off, and I just did the best I could. It has obviously worked out very well for me.
My hunger didn't exist for at least six months - it was not fun to eat/drink. However now I eat and enjoy everything, and my wonderful little pouchie keeps me in line!

I am in the same position as you Vim ... I do get thirsty - well thats to say my mouth feels dry and I can tell if I've not had enough to drink.
As for hunger ... the first few days after surgery I was starving but now I am at a point where I very rarely feel hungry also. I do still enjoy eating I just don't eat as much as I used to and I don't push the boundaries too far either.
Like the others said I eat to live - not the other way round.
You will get through this hun .. we're here with you so chin up and hope you slept well
Love Lorak
