A comment about pain relief
I was just reading a disturbing thread about someone that was taking Advil post surgery etc. I did not post there, because there are plenty of you giving very sound advice.
I just wanted to say that my surgery group advises Tylenol, but.. they also said liquid advil is acceptable. I have not ever taken anything since surgery as I have not had a headache or aches and pains etc, but I just know they said that was the ONLY type of advil that was acceptable.
I am curious has anyone else been told this?
Jeff

I have been told strictly no advil at all, or asprin either. Wouldn't the liquid have the same main ingredient as the pills?

An NSAID is an NSAID, no matter what wrapping or form it comes in. If it passed through the stomach, you shouldn't take it.

I was told absolutely no NSAIDS, but then I had horrible cramps that Tylenol wouldn't touch. My PCP said to take children's liquid Motrin. I was terrified to do so and I called my surgeon. He said to take only as much of the liquid Motrin as I needed to get some relief, but to not take any more. I asked him if it could hurt me if I took it and he said yes, it could. I waited another day but when nothing worked, I finally took the liquid Motrin and got some relief. I am now on birth control so my cycles are controlled so that will never happen again. It was a one-time thing.
