Tell your doc you want to be scoped to see if you have an ulcer!!!!! You have the exact symptoms I had between 3 to 6 weeks out from surgery and I had my scope on the day that began my 6 weeks preop and was supposed to be the day I could progress to mushy solids and I had an ulcer and a stricture (closing of the opening from the pouch into the intestines and it had to be stretched). I was told to stay on full liquids for 3 more months! I did it though and was on ulcer medication the whole time and then I was able to try and start mushy solids after that. So 4 1/2 months I did not eat solid foods. I, too, lived on ibuprofen before surgery for various pains that I had daily from being so overweight. I hurt so bad I couldn't function at the very minimal level I was able to function at before surgery if I didn't eat ibuprofen like candy. I have a feeling I had the ulcer when I had my surgery and my doc just didn't know it. But that burning you are describing is exactly what I had. It would hurt so bad it would double me over and it would wake me up during the night too. Milk was about the only thing that would even soothe it down a bit and only for a short time. I was also lactose intolerant, which I found out after two weeks of severe pain and on my elbows and knees on my bed rocking back and forth with pillows under me when I first came home from hospital. So, MAKE your doc help you. He is supposed to be figuring this out and taking care of you, NOT ignoring you or telling you to deal with it! Demand he do something. I promise you will get his attention if you schedule a visit and go in his office and tell him you are not leaving until something is being done. He will realize how serious you are. You should not have to live in pain. Please demand he do an endoscopy to see if you have an ulcer. It's where they run the camera down your throat and look at the inside of your pouch. Please keep us updated on your progress. I hope you get some relief soon.

What Trina Said!! And for heavens sake...STOP the NSAIDS!! There are a LOT of things we can and cannot do...I am surprised you were NOT advised about the generals of this. You did the right thing going back to liquids, but you NEED to get protein in...even if it's just protein drinks. Trina's right. The pain you are describing should not be going on and you NEED to get your Surgeon to see you. What your describing is NOT normal.

Get some Zantac into you pronto! AND CALL THAT DOCTOR! Do NOT let him blow this off. I agree, you should be scoped. INSIST! DO not take no for an answer. This is your body, you need to fight for it.
I am shocked and mortified that your MD did not tell you about NSAIDs. This worries me. How many surgeries has he done???

You have received great advise so far, sweetie. and I am only going to add one thing about your pain meds: No NSAID's. When you do your switch to Tylenol, make sure you get a regular pill...not the rapid release stuff with the little balls in the capsule as we cannot absorb those as folks can with normal tummies. The coating is also not absorbed or broken down to allow the release of the meds because we have no bile until much much later in our digestive tracts.
You - and only you- can be your own advocate for your own health. Demand the cre that you deserve, sweetie. It is not normal to be in the pain you are in. I am two years out, and still take one Zantac everyday...(((HUGS))

What they all said............
The burning you describe definitely sounds like an ulcer. I have never had one but that is exactly what has been described to me before as what an ulcer feels like. I know a lot of people who are on Zantac or Prilosec after surgery. My doc actually prescribed Nexium and it worked like a charm! I took it for 6 months post-op and then weaned myself off of it. Now, if I have any trouble, I just take one of my hubby's Zantac.
As far as the NSAIDS go, don't take them! I can't believe your surgeon didn't tell you that! They are a no-no for bariatric patients because they can cause ulcers. Make your surgeon scope you. If he won't, find one that will! Good luck to you!

prilosec otc - once a day to prevent ulcers..
No Advil... no INSAIDS! Very important to prevent ulcers...
Goodness..
If you have an ulcer... be carefull not to eat or drink acidity foods.. like orange juice or tomatoes and spicy foods (these will hurt).
call your surgeon and discuss this issue

I ditto all the above. It takes a few weeks for the damage of nsaids to heal. In the meantime start prilosec over the counter the best form of tylenol for you right now is liquid.

Well, it's been three days since Katie last posted. Hoping she's ok and was able to get her surgeon to take her seriously.

Hi everyone, thank ya'll so much for all of your replies. They have helped me so much!!! I have been in pretty bad shape the last few days. No my doctor still wont but I do have an appointment tomorrow with a gastro dr and I PRAY TO GOD that he will help me. I have felt so bad that I havent been able to get online. All I want to do is cry. It hurts to sit or lay down. If I stand more than about a minute and half at the most I have a horriable pain that goes from like 2 inches to the left of my belly button and wraps arond my back it hurts so bad I get pale as a ghost and just colapse...I am still and more than I was scared to death. I know before my surgery I could stand and laydown and sit or anything. Also I've lost 40 pounds now and my 6 weeks isnt till tomorrow and my husband is scared that I am losing to fast. Has anyone else lost like this or is he right should I be worried? I have lost approx. 2 lbs a day the last few days. I know I am prolly bothering yall but I dont know where else to turn... Thanx again Katie
