But mostly Katie, please don't stress. This will work out for you. Get on the right painkillers first, and then re-evaluate.

Were you prescribed hydrocodone APAP after discharge for pain?
Yes I was perscribed Hydrocodone after surgery. Now I hurt so bad but they will only send you home with medication but no more after that and i still hurt so bad. And before the surgery Advil liquid gels are always what helped me. So I am glad you guys told me about the tylenol. any certain kind of tylenol??? And thanx so much for all of ya'll's responses I really need all the help I can get...

I STAY STESSED!!! I cry all the time. And my dr dont give out pain medication after surgery the 1st time. So I have to do it on my own. I just feel so lost and sad all the time and now worried about depression. Does this pain last for ever???

I know its already been said...but anti-inflammatories such as motrin, advil and aspirin are definite no-nos. I would assume these are making things worse for you! I had narly monthly cycles and used to take 4 motrin every 4 hours...and now I take nothing because my doctor told me even one motrin could aggrevate my stomach...continued use could cause an ulcer...and we are very prone to ulcers after this surgery.
I would try eliminating the pain meds for a day or two if you can stand it and see if things get better.
If you need something I would use liquid tylenol.

When you say doctor, do you mean your surgeon or primary care? I have a good relationship with my PC, and if I said I needed something, he'd give it to me. As for Tylenol, I haven't had to use any yet, but I have a bottle of Extra Strength Rapid Release Gel tabs. I was just thinking after you asked, if these would too big to swallow whole, but I guess you could. I'm so used to cutting up all my other pills.

I'm sorry to hear you're stressed. I've had such an easy time of this and I truly feel for those who experience these "bumps".

Just curious and asking out of concern, have you noticed any blood in your bowel movements or are your BM's black in color?

Nope my bm's are green and diarrhea. I know thats grose (ms*) but it is true. I have had diarrhea since about 2 days out of surgery. And that is my surgeon I am talking about. I havent seen my general doctor. Honestly I dont even feel like getting out of my house or better yet out of my recliner. I get up and try and walk on the tredmill when I can but that is about it.

lol...nothing is too gross for this forum. Are you onto the soft food phase at this point? Is it possible that something you're eating may also be causing you discomfort along with the possible side affects of the Advil?

Well my dr put me on liquids week 1, then soft week 2, then regular foods week 3. But I put my self back on liquids about a week or so ago cuz of all the pain. I tried to eat chicken noodle soup last night and got so nauseated (ms) I felt like I was going to die. So do you think I will ever be able to eat again? Now my surgeons nurse told my husband that they are scared I am going to loose to much to fast. So I am just stuck cause I cant eat with out getting sick. So any recommendations? I could eat for about a week on week 3 then it has all gone down hill since then. Help!!!

Wow, again I'm surprised by all the differences I hear from all the various surgeons. My surgeon requires 3 weeks liquid, 3 weeks puree, and then at week seven, we can start soft foods. This is done to allow your stomach and colon to "get together" gradually and your pouch and everything else to heal up properly. Your green BM's and diarrhea bothered me. I understand that some people live with this, but to me it signals a stressed stomach.

Are you getting your 60-70g of protein in a day? I drink two 20g protein drinks a day, and mix in other stuff to makeup the difference, mostly soups that are pureed and cheese that I like to let melt in my mouth.

Some others with similar problems may chime in on this thread for you and I hope they do, but I've read a lot here and elsewhere, and I get the impression your surgeon is not customer-friendly. I would think at the least they would have suggested doing a endoscopy on you to at least see inside your pouch. Some have resorted to going to the ER and forcing the issue. I can't imagine having pain for that long, and your doctor not being concerned. Mine would have me in his office the same day.

Hi Katie ...

How long did you have between the time you decided to have surgery and then it happened? Did your insurance have a "supervised" diet time requirement?

Did you see a pshychiatrist, nutritionist? Does your surgeon have support groups? Sounds like you need more help than he's giving you... and I feel badly for you! When you feel up to it, spend some time here reading, and put Weight Loss Surgery for Dummies on your Christmas list... there is sooo much to know about this surgery, and you were not properly prepared. I'm not cricizing you sweetie... the surgeon should have done all this for you.

STOP the ADVIL and let's hope that STARTS the feeling better. We're all here for you and will help you through these tough times... Be brave honey and let's see if we can get you on the right track!
