Default Meds to prevent gallstones

I forgot to ask my surgeon at my 6-week follow-up appt. if I should be taking meds to prevent gallstones. How common is it to be on meds for this after this surgery. I have heard that after any rapid weight loss, the risk for developing gallstones increases. How many of you are on meds to prevent gallstones?

My doc says it is very common and he tried to take my gall bladder out. Unfortunately, I had a tumor on my small intestine that had to be removed and he didn't get it out. I haven't heard of any meds to prevent gall atones though.

Our doc put us on actigall for 6 months. Doesn't hurt to call and ask. Each surgeon has a different theory on how to treat things.

I had my gallbladder out 15 yrs ago, thankfully. So, with that scar and my bypass scar, it looked like a number "7".....but it's realllllll droopy now, but that's ok... I do believe some doctors do a preventative for gallstones. Gallbladder attacks are HORRIBLE!!! I still have my jar with 25 stones in it.

Default Actigall or similar

At the Pre-op meeting this month Dr. Potts said we should be on it until we hit 9 months.
