Default NSAID's

What do people who NEED anti-inflamitory meds do post-RNY? Folks with rheumatoid arthritis, osteoarthritis, gout, etc???

I'm on them now for a back problem... just wondering for down-the-road a bit...

I have a major back problem and can't take them. I get injections in my back ever so often to help with pain, but you take Tylenol or you get something like Ultram or Ultracet from a doc and hope it controls your pain. As far as osteoarthritis, I know there is a very expensive anti-inflammatory cream your doc can order that may help. It has to be mixed by your pharmacist, but can't remembe the name of it. Wish I could help more Katie. But NSAIDs are bad news to us WLS patients and I wouldn't risk it!

Actually Katie IF there is NO OTHER option in controlling the pain without NSAIDs you can take them as long as you are taking a protectant. The one my surgeon recommends is Cytotec. You still run the risk of developing an ulcer but it decreases that risk.

Default Yeah...

I don't mention it much, because it's such a big, fat, no-no... but I've been on Mobic since long before the surgery and every day since... but I take Prevacid every single day as well, at least an hour before I take the Mobic. I haven't had a problem. But I never had an ulcer prior to GBS, and my doctor and I decided to take a calculated risk so I could keep moving. Without the Mobic, my knees and hips hurt too much for me to move.

I have the beginnings of arthritis in my hand from an injury when I was in my teens. Now granted it's not very bad and I can still function well with it my doc said that taking Tylenol as directed as a preventitive can help.
