Default No problems w/ liquid diet

Ok, I am having zero problems getting in my protein drinks & am actually over the amount of protein & water I'm supposed to have for both yesterday & today. I have gas but not massive amounts. Am I abnormal?? Seems like most folks have all sorts of problems with this. I even like my protein drinks.

Sounds crazy to me to question this but I can't help it. I feel bad that so many are struggling & I'm not having these issues. I feel like I'm nuts that I'm not having issues.

Nope! You're not abnormal Jeri.

I had no problem getting the liquids down but I went into training for that several weeks beforehand.

I got my protein down too although I really hated the taste of all of them.

I feel for people who have a problem early out too but it generally all works out.

Keep up the good work.

I felt stupid posting this even. I'm so thankful that I'm doing well and pray that it continues.

I just want everyone else to be having an easy time too.

There is no reason to feel stupid Jeri!

I love hearing how people are doing in the first few days out of surgery - good or bad, it's informative for the newcomers too.

I had read over and over again about hell week and was petrified. Reality for me was that it wasn't anywhere near as bad as I'd expected.

You keep posting away - I love hearing from you. Hugs.

Jeri, my sister Texan! I'm delighted with your good news that you are making a good adjustment with food/liquid.

Just take one day at a time, and stop and smell the roses! You have come so far!! I'm truly delighted for you.

You are right - a lot of us had difficulty at first (I know I did), but over time it is all a blur, and what really counts is the result - I'm a happy camper, and I know you will continue to be!

Hugs!

This is EXACTLY what people NEED to hear. The whole mood of the forum has been SOOOOO much better these last couple of weeks...and here you are making another positive contribution! Happiness is contagious, and I'm glad you're spreading it around!

I meant to tell you in another thread, so I'll do it here instead...when you move to the Full Liquid Phase, I had a lot of luck with those Campell's "Soup at Hand" soups. I used the Cream of Chicken, the Cream of Broccoli, Cream of Potato, and Tomato (though I was initially worried about the acid in that one, but it went down fine!). They tasted so rich and good, it made me forget that I was on a liquid diet!

Keep up the good work...you're doing great!

-Mike

Jeri,
I was glad mike que'd me into the campell's "soup at hand" not that I found them here in tucson at my local groc. store. But it lead me to explore some other soups. I found cream of butter squash that was really good. I really got tired of the cream of chicken and cream of broccoli really fast. I haven't tried any tomato based soups because I'm afraid of the acid in them. My husband said I shouldn't do it because it's too early for my pouch to handle. So for now I'm steared clear of tomatoes. I went shopping today for my family and I and came home with vanella carnation instant breakfast and some 'anise' flavoring syrup it's kind of like vanella but another flavor. Wow!... I love black liquerish and thought I'd never have it again. I put it in my vanella carnation instant breakfast and it tastes sooooo good!.

I too am having no difficulty with the liquid diet. Everything seems to be fine. Yogart is good and cream of wheat wanderfull. I'm finding it just difficult to find some variety in tastes, that's all. But I have my black liquarish tasting drink tonight so I'm in heaven!...

Good luck.. I hope we both keep doing well after the liquid phase. Time will tell.

Jeri, I'm so glad you are doing so well. I felt great in the beginning also. That first week was great....after that things got bad for me, but I doubt that'll happen for you. Mine was one of those rare complications you hear about..compounded by a 2nd surgery and a severe case of pneumonia. Most people don't have those issues crop up 1 week post op! It took me quite awhile to be able to get those protein shakes down. I never minded them, but it just took me forever to drink them. I couldn't stomach plain water, crystal lite, nothing like that in the beginning. I lived on sf popsicles and those shakes. It sounds like you are going to be one of the lucky ones that sails through that recovery process and has no problems! Something to be very thankful for, for sure!!! Keep up the good work!!! You have a great attitude...and that really helps a lot!!! Take special care of yourself.
