Thumbs up I got Scoped

Yesterday I went in and had my upper endoscopy done. It went pretty well. The nurses were great, and one had just had her bypass surgery and held my hand and of course asked me a lot of questions about it. She wanted to know how far out I was, how much I had lost, etc. So I filled her in on all the gory details.. lol

Anyway they gave me a sedative (which knocked me out for the most part) based on my weight and the time they allotted for the proceedure. Well, they ended up doing I think 8 biopsies throughout my throat and my pouch and I woke up in the middle of the proceedure and started fighting them and trying to pull the camera out of my throat and whatnot. They ended up giving me more "juice" which knocked me out again, which was good. I am not traumatized from the ordeal, it wasn't all that bad. I just felt bad that I was fighting them. They said it was a natural reaction to do so. So now I don't feel as bad. Anyway you all probably want to know.. what did they find? Well they found a small ulcer at the anastamosis site. Also they gave me pictures which was really cool. It shows the staples at the anastamosis site and my cute lil pouch. My pouch was also inflammed so they took biopsies of that to check the tissue and they took some of my ulcer itself to check that as well. All in all I feel good and felt I was in good and capable hands. Stuart took me there and waited with me in the waiting room until they called me back. When they woke me up in recovery he walked in and sat with me there. I think he helped me get dressed and stuff, but I can't remember I was still pretty out of it. He then took me home (to his house) and sat with me and waited on me and took very good care of me. I am one lucky girl I tell ya.

I am waiting on the results of the biopsy to find out what our next step is in trying to treat this thing. Wish me luck. (Oh they aren't concerned about cancer.. I know when you hear biopsy you think.. the big c.. but they are basically tissue samples that they microscopically check for whatever is causing the problem.)

P.S. I do have pictures like I said if anyone wants to see them. I think they are cool, but that's me I am sick like that.. lol

Default Kina,

I was wondering why we hadn't heard from you on the forum. Well, now we know what you've been up to. What about these ulsers? What's causing them and how can we prevent them from forming?

I would love to see the pictures of your pouch!

That Stuart! He's just the bomb!

Default Pictures??

I would really like to see those pics. I have also been waiting for more pics of the outside of Christina!!! I have only come across like one!

Anyway, I hope they come up with the magic bullet for you. Sounds like they are on top of it. I must admit, I wasn't aware that you were having difficulty. Need to read a little closer, huh?

Take Care,
Mike

Default Ulcers

Well, there was one small ulcer at the anastamosis site. I don't know that there is anything you can do to prevent them. The one thing I can say is I probably helped it by taking the Dr.s advice and taking my meds correctly. I hope they do find the cause of the ulcer and hopefully can get me on the right meds to fix it. I think it was just something that can happen. The one thing I can totally recommend to prevent them is to NOT work for my boss!! I am blaming it all on him!!! hehe

Yes, Kim, Stuart is the bomb!! I am one lucky woman.

Scoot.. I'll get more pics up eventually..

Take care everyone.. love ya..

Smile Christina,

Well, looks like we were both "put to sleep" yesterday. My procedure was really weird also. Kinda freaky. They put me to sleep for just one minute or so and took this big needle and injected my eyeball with some novicane. Freak me out, right? Well anyway, then they woke me up and made me stay awake through the whole surgery of removing the catyract!

Gosh!!!!!!!!

It sucked!

Take care of you!

Thumbs up Stacie

Girl, I don't know how you did it. I freaked out just by waking up during the proceedure and they didn't intend that to happen. I don't think I could have endured being awake while they were probing on my eye. Did I ever tell you of my eye fobia? Oh well the ONLY time I fainted in the OR while I was doing my rotations there was when they were doing an eye lift. I saw that eye looking up and low and behold it freaked me out and I fainted... LOL Eyes freak me out.. like when someone sleeps with their eyes open.. yikes!! LOL

I give you big cudos on your courage. I am so glad that is over with now for you. I know Gerry took very good care of you last night.. (In more ways then one.. I know right?? )

Needless to say I was never asked to assist in another eye case..
