Unhappy numbnes in hands

hi, I am new here. I haven't been feeling well. I take 2 flintstones vitamins a day. I recently developed numbness in hands. I think there may be a connection with my surgery.
I had my surgery January, 25th, 2005.
I have nausea every day and the meds they give me doesn't help. I am on pureed foods until at least March 11th but I don't know how I will be able to tolerate soft foods when I can barely tolerate pureed foods. Protein food sit very heavily on my stomach it seems.
I have lost around 40 lbs but don't have energy at all. I exercise about 5-6 days a week.
I have trouble getting the water down. I am not drinking as much as I am supposed to. I also have a bad taste in my mouth a lot and even water tastes funny to me.
Does anyone else have this problem?

Violet,

Numbness in your hands is a sign of vitamin or water or something deficency ( I can't remember). Please do not take it lightly. You need to call your doctor tomorrow and tell them what is going on and have them advise you of what to do from here.

Dont' panic just call the doctor tomorrow. Promise..........

Ask your doctor if you can sip on some skim milk. Some people become lactose intolerant, but thankfully I didn't. Sugar free fudgesicles were great also, and my favorite, yogurt. Watch your sugar grams, though. Some yogurt is loaded with sugar. You can also squeeze some lemon slices in your water, add a pack of Splenda, and you have instant lemonade!

Good luck!

Default Numb hands

I had numbness in my hands and it all occurred when I had low levels of B1 (thiamine). When the lab results came back, I barely registered any thiamine. To this day, I am still on thiamine because of low levels. Make sure you have your B1 checked.

Smile Get your labs drawn

I had it too, in my fingertips. Get your labs drawn pronto to check those vitamin levels. Dont delay it all, it doesnt go away, it only gets worse.

Default Numbness

Don't take numbness lightly. I have the same thing in my legs due to a B1 Thiamine Deficiency. I now have to endure a painful proceedure where they have to stick needles in my muscles and do all sorts of nerve testing at the Neurologists office. I am so not looking forward to this. All of this could have been avoided had I been able to get my lab work done and had known I was deficient in B1. (I couldn't do labs because I didn't have insurance.. but that is a whole other issue I have to deal with.. lol)

I just don't want you to take it lightly, because this damage could be irreversible for me and I would hate for anyone to have to deal with this if they don't have to. I am so sorry that you are going through this but please check your B1 right away and let the Dr. know what is going on.

I did my labs this week. My B1 was fine, but my Betacaratine was REALLY low. And yes, my eyesight has been bothering me.

Thumbs up Beta Cerotine

Tricia,

I think that Tracie recommended that you take a Dry Vitamin A that has beta certotine in it.. I think she said we absorb that better. At least that is what I have been doing now. Good luck to you..

My eye sight was very poor there for a while, and you can suffer from macular degeneration if you don't watch those levels. I got new glasses and now those ones are too strong, so I must be doing something right??

Wow, I get numbness in my hands now and haven't even had the surgery?

Christina - are you/did you have nerve ending testing done??? I had that done about 10 years ago on my right hand (luckily I'm left handed). I woke up one morning and couldn't lift my hand. I actually waited for 3 days before calling the doctor but was eventually referred to a neuroligist. The testing was not fun at all in my hand, and all the way up to my shoulder - plus the neurologist had CP so she was kind of "heavy handed" with the electrodes and stuff.. anyway it seems I had a virus that made my body attack it's own nerve endings. My point though... was that I'm a big baby and went trhough it alright so I'm sure you'll do great!

Default Nerve Testing

Meaghan,

I have not had it done yet. They sent me the paperwork from my Neurologists office. I have it done later this month. I am soooo not looking forward to that at all. They scheduled me to do nerve and muscle testing in four yes.. 4 LIMBS!!! That means both arms and legs.. ack! I will endure it and go through it because I know it is important, but I am not looking forward to it.
