Personally I would stay away from it. Like Michelle said, it is an NSAIDs and you run the risk of irritating your new pouch and developing ulcers. Just not something I would want to take a chance with. I'm not sure why your surgeon would order it so if I were in your shoes I would stop taking it. If you feel as if you need to take it make sure you are on some kind of protectant like Prilosec, Tagamet, Prevacid or something like that. Your new pouch is healing and you are very prone to getting an ulcer right now. Even though your doctor ordered it you have the right to refuse to take it. Your decision.

Yea, I'm not going to take any more of it until I talk to my doctor. The doctor that prescribed it to me at the hospital was actually the assistant of the surgeon, so I'm guessing he's like an intern or something, (he looked about 12) but still...unsettling that they would not know the dangers of this drug for me. Thank you for weighing in on this.. I appreciate the advice.

Any time, Jane. It is scarey how many doctors aren't aware of this information, even if it was a resident obviously bariatrics was his/her rotation right now and that is something they should know! It's something that is pretty basic knowledge when it comes to a RNY. I understand other doctors who aren't bariatric surgeons not knowing it....but that is when we as patients have to step up and be our own advocate. I've had several doctors who have tried to tell me to take Motrin/Ibuprofen and I just let them know I can't take it and then do a wee bit of educating. .

hehehe...well no sooner did I read this Michelle and we got a call. Thankfully it doesn't sound like much. So I hopefully didn't jinx myself too much. It's just one of our outpatients who is having a problem with pain control. Looks like we might be admitting her.
