How often do you weigh
I will be 2months post op on the 8th of this month (right around the corner). I have read a lot of posts where people weigh themselves everyday (it seems they can't help it). Personally, I am afraid of my scale because it makes me crazy ( I generally weigh myself once a week), but I thought what I would do is weigh myself once a month instead of every week. I guess I like the surprise. Is weighing once a month too long before weighing yourself? I wonder about this because it seems to me a lot of people on here want to keep up with their weight whereas I don't really mind not knowing in case my numbers stop moving down (plateau). I used to be obssessed with the scale before surgery and everytime I get on one now it just seems to remind me of the bad old days. Curious to know everyone's thoughts on this.
Thanks!

I'm only 12 days out so I've got more to think about than the scales.
I chose to throw out my scales prior to surgery. I'd be weighing myself 2 and 3 times and day and if there was no movement - well, bang went another diet.
I'll be visiting the docs pretty regularly over the next few months. I'll leave the weighing to then. I'm sure I'll have to get some more but you know, it's kinda nice not having that little beastie constantly on my mind.

Just my opinion...but the further out you get, I think its important to weigh yourself more often than 1 time a month. At 2 months out its probably ok because you are going to lose weight no matter what. But later on, weighing yourself regularly is critical in making sure it never comes back on. If you gain weight, you don't want it to get too far along, before you catch yourself.

I SO agree with Simone... I also can get obsessive when it comes to getting on that scale all the time, but I've come to accept the day-to-day fluctuations and not freak out about them-- so I might get on the scale 3-4 times a week, but I only "count" my Friday weigh-in. BUT, I know from past experience that when I'm in "gain mode," I tend to avoid the scale-- so at that stage, I HAVE to weigh in at least once a week.

* sighs *
I weigh myself every damn time I walk into the bathroom... I'm obsessed... I jump out of bed... take a pee... and then weigh myself naked every morning...
Then I'll wiegh myself at night too sometimes... well hell most of the time...
It's a horrible obsession that I hope soon fades...

In the weight loss phase, I weighed in every day. Now I weigh in 3 x'/week except when I have my period. I won't even get on the scale until it is over.

I've set a rule for myself of only weighing in on Tuesday mornings. How this started, I don't remember, but its the only time I do it. Then again I'm only 5 months out.
Just my .02 cents

I'm a little more than 8 months out and have weighed myself everyday since coming home. But only once a day--in order to keep an accurate record of my weight fluctuations. Because I weigh once a day at the same time wearing the same thing (undies only), I was able to look at my spreadsheet and figure out my body's weight loss pattern. I tend to only lose for a couple of days a month during and right after my period. The rest of the month I gain and lose the same pound to pound and a half. But it's ok because I know that I'll lose again and now I'm 1 pound from goal.
In the beginning I did stress over not losing something every day or even gaining. As in, "WTF!? I'm 9 weeks out and gained a half a pound! How could that be?" At that point my dh threatened to take my scale away and then he outed me at support group. From then on I decided that I would weigh once a day and what it was, was what it was. I would log it and get on with my day.
I personally feel that you should weigh more than once a month, at least once a week to keep accurate records. That being said, maybe you're not as anal as I am about records. This journey is so very personal you need to do whatever is best and right for you.
Good luck on your journey!
