Default different kinds of weight loss?

Hey all,
so I'm 12 days post op now and phsically feeling great. emotionally is a whole other story. I cant stand those protein drinks so I'm scared I'm not getting enough protein. I try to take them like shots, but....
anyway, I've lost 20 pounds already. But I dont feel like I've lost that much. I guess what I mean is, in the past with dieting when I would have lost 20 pounds I felt great about myself and healthy, and you know different. my clothes still feel the same, and I still look the same. I had a family gathering yesterday and they all think I look the same also. Thats kinda depressing. Why is the weight loss different? Did anybody else experence this?

Thumbs up Weight Loss

Weight loss looks different in different sized bodies. As we start losing weight, it is hard to notice. I didn't really notice my clothes falling off me until I had lost about 60 lbs. Now if I were to get into the clothes I had worn pre-op I would drown in them. I notice when I lose a few pounds now a lot more than I would have in the past. Give it some time, let your body heal some more and know that you will notice it before long, that your clothes don't fit any longer..

Now if I lose 5 lbs or gain 5 lbs it is noticable.. before it wasn't. I hope that makes sense.

Good luck and congrats on your 20 lbs!!!!

Default 20 Pounds

20 Pounds in 12 days is awesome!! Hello when have you ever lost 20 pounds in 12 days? You are probably still bloated from surgery. I know that I was for several weeks. Don't worry about it you will start to see it soon enough. Your family will probably see it quicker than you will. Give it some time 12 days is nothing! I can't remember if at 12 days fruit is an option, but if it's try putting a little piece of banana in there with it that will make it taste better.

Default DON'T WORRY!! it's happening!

20 pounds is 20 pounds you will never see again!!!

Do not worry about what you or anyone else for that matter can see!!!!!!The scale and your measurements will let you know. Remember you are on a journey and enjoy the ride 'cause your in for a wild one!!!

In the beginning your having alot of concerns and maybe even doubts. I assure you, you will see the weight loss and eventually so will others.

I was told by an orthpedic Dr. that you knees absorb the shock of 3x your weight. So think of the 20 pounds as 60 pounds off those joints and you can see how much healthier you already are and what is in store for you!!

As far as the protein drinks, I suggest you check out bariatriceating.com. They have a protein drink sampler that allows you to try many brands and flavors without buying the whole case or box.

GOOD LUCK TO YOU!!

YOUR DOING GREAT!!

Default It WILL Happen

The good news: That's 20 lbs. you'll never see again!
The bad news: At 12 days post-op, a good portion of the pounds was probably fluid.

Please don't get discouraged. The weight WILL come off. Try not to be too hard on yourself. R-E-L-A-X. Thinking you should LOOK thinner 12 days after surgery is a little overly optimistic. Your body has just gone through a huge trauma and is still recovering. It will get better, I promise!

As far as getting all of your protein, don't be too concerned at this point. Try to drink as much water as possible, so you stay hydrated. That is the most important thing to remember right now.

Good luck with your journey!

It won't be long before people start telling to stop losing weight or that you're getting too skinny....

It's a matter of perception. My co-workers only vaguely remember my before me from a year ago. To me, I've definitely feel and look like I've lost 100+. To others, they think it's only been 50 lbs. Everyone thinks I'm a size 0-2 and too skinny. I have to show them the tags to prove that I'm a healthy size 6 for my body type.

People are starting to tell me to stop losing. I even had a co-worker ask me if I knew what food is and if I will ever eat again. Duh!!! I eat. What do these people think?

My husband tells me not to go to the gym because he thinks I am going to melt away. Silly!

I too was a little disappointed after sugery.....your mind does crazy things...I am a month post op and I am just now noticing the swelling going down, it took awhile for that to happen, remember that it is major surgery and your insides are in shock. As for protein, I could not tollerate the thick shake like protein drinks. I drink ISOPURE, it has no sugar and 40 grams of protein. It takes me a couple days to finish the whole thing but they taste great, like gatorade. You can find them at GNC, Vitamin Shoppe, Henry's. Good luck to you and dont get down......you will notice your body changing real soon.

20 #s in 12 days is great! Celebrate that! I am 6 wks post op and down 40 #s and 1 dress size. It really is the journey just like all those smart people before me said! I have also noticed that this time my weight is coming off in different places than before with ohter diets. I don't know why.

I got great advice re. the protein drink on this website. try mixing it with crystal lite. Choclate raspberry, vanilla orange. I drink Pro Complex-8 oz gets me 55 grms of protein and substitute 1 meal. It takes me about 2 hours to finish. At 12 days, it took me all day and then some. Drink your water-even more important right now!

Good luck!
