Exclamation What is this left side pain?

I've scheduled an appointment to see my doctor on this Thursday, but I am wondering if anyone has gone through what I am going through now. My left side has been hurting since I got out of surgery which I thought was normal, however, it is almost 4 weeks out and I am still having pain on my left side. The pain is almost like a pulling pain on my left side from the incision up to my ribs and around to my upper back (not in the shoulder blades). If I touch my incision it doesn't hurt, just a little tender at the very end of the incision on my left side and it is not red or swollen. While I am sitting it doesn't hurt, when I am walking it is a different thing. I know the pain is there. Has anyone experienced this before? The staff at the doctor's office said the pain on the left side should be gone by now. This pain is not in my stomach.

Thanks!

Question

Hi SunkissedMe,

If you had an open RNY it may be a muscle pain. There are layers on muscles in the truck of the body. You may want to try a heating pad or warm shower. Muscle pain still happens with a lap RNY be is not as common.

hmm... I had pains on both sides, but my doc said it was from the muscles that he had to cut through and they were just generally sore and tender...

I'm almost positive I read somewhere on this forum that on the left side they have to " clamp " the liver out of the way to perform the surgery...

also... I had alot of swelling and bloating througout my sides and upper body after the surgery... don't know if this is your issue though...

good thing you are going to see your doc on thursday... hope he figures it out!

I will be one year post-op on Friday and I still can just move the wrong way and get a pain on my left side. I have talked to the doctor every time and they said that the mesh that they put in on the left side can sometimes be uncomfterable. I know 4 weeks out I still hurt pretty bad on my left. I would talk to the doctor about it and I am going to also on my one year because I bent over to get someting off the floor the other day and it felt like someone was on the inside pulling me 2 ways. I think everything will be ok you stll have some healing to do on the inside.

Most of the work is done through that left port incision. Mine hurt a long tome (inside) I can't remember how long. Sounds pretty normal to me. Hope it gets better soon.

Default Confirmation from the doctor

Everyone was right, nothing to worry about according to my doctor, she said that she had to go at an angle to do the major work on that side and that it will be tender for a while as it heals.

Thanks for the support
