Blood sugar levels
Today I am 4 weeks post-op. This morning I am feeling down, irritable, and shaky. I checked my blood sugar (I am type 2 DM) thinking it was too low and it ended up being 136, too high for not eating anything. I thought I was done with this high BG. I am frustrated and upset. Help...my fellow friends

Kelly,
136 is not really that high. Not something to be bumbed about. 136 is actually good at this point in the game. Now if you said 236 then there's a problem. Maybe you had a rebound low blood sugar that rebounded up after eating something.
Did you doctor tell you that you can not eat at 136 that just seems weird to me. Maybe I am wrong, wrong, wrong. But I know that not eating won't fix it. If i were you I would go walk around and drink some water it will make you blood sugar go down after the walk.
Hang in there don't be so hard on yourself it has only been 4 weeks......... (look who's talken)

Thanks for posting back so quick! SInce surgery my BG has been in the 90's and no higher (sometimes) than 115. So maybe I am just really bummed it is higher than I was anticipating. No, Doc did not tell me not to eat at 136. Right now I am drinking water, but feeling very bad (my body, not my mind...this time...lol), tired. I made plans to take care of errands today and right now I feel like I can not even move around. I tend to be harder on myself than I should...just bummed. I am hoping they will not make me go back on meds or insulin if this keeps up.

Kelly,
I don't think 136 is high enough to make you feel like this. I myself do feel a little weird at 140 but not like what your talking about and the doctors have told me that I am more sugar senstive to feel my blood surgar at 130 or 140. But I have not taken and BG medinice in over a year I have my controled my diet. My husbands has really high type 2 diabetis his goes up to 350 or so and he feels nothing. Weird I know....
Maybe you might be coming down with something, or maybe you need to eat, or maybe you ate something that did agree with you, or maybe you need to do your b-12 or something or take your vitamins. But I really don't think that this is from your blood sugar (I have been wrong many, many times in my life that this could be one more). Maybe God is just trying to tell you to rest and take care of yourself. The errands can wait till tomorrow if they need to right.....
Hang in there........
I was like that on Sunday I went to church and a walk and when I got home at 1:00 I was so tired and exhausted all I could do is sit in my chair and walk TV until 9pm then I went to bed. I just needed a day of rest. A day to be still. And that's Ok, that's healthy......

Lately you have been really making me feel better...thanks! Ya know...I have not started my B-12!!!! I just discovered that yesterday. Also, my antidepresant meds are lacking...I keep forgetting to take them. You are right...it's not my BG then...has to be the other stuff. Thanks for bring it out of me I really appreciate it.
Christina and I were talking about mood swings and stuff...I think it's happening. I'm scared. My depression was so bad about 1 year ago, then I went into remission and had surgery. Now look at what is happening.

Kelly,
Make sure that you take your antidepresants it is the worst time now to stop taking them. I didn't take mine for the first couple of weeks and I really paid the price. I take mine for pain management. I felt like a dork when I realized why I was in so much pain and not sleeping and stuff like that. I also didn't take my asthma medicine and me and Dr Potts could not figure out why I was having so much shortness of breath just walking around the room, He even ordered and chest x-ray. Wow did I feel like a dork when I realize it was because I was having asthma problems from not taking my meds. Now I am back on track.
I am going to send you a private message and give you my email address and phone number and stuff. I also feel a connection with you....

I talked to Kelly and she agreed with OUR Medical Evaluation with me. lol. There was also a few other things that have happened in my life lately and I did not take those things in consideration either. I drank some water & drank my protein drink and feel better. I'd love to be able to call you when desperate. Christina and I were taking about this subject too. Sometimes you just need someone who understand right then. Thank GOD you were online. Thank you. I will go get my vit B-12 today!

Kelly,
Stress will also raise the BG, as will infection, or other illness. 136 is still good at this point, you are still fresh post op. If you were in the hospital and your BG was 136, there probably would be an order for a sliding scale, and 136 wouldn't have coverage. your levels are going to go way down, soon, you will feel good soon too. Good days and bad days, and the further out from surgery you go the further apart the bad days will get. It is going to be a great ride, and next year you will be posting as a thin person, and living life as a thin person. You will be a thin person! Enjoy your ride.
Hugs,
Traci

just a point
I dont have diabetes, at least never diagnosed with it. But before surgery when my blood sugars got low I could really tell. and I would eat a candy bar or something. I'm only 9 dasy post op and I feel those symptoms sometimes, so I took my blood sugar with my moms device and it said it was 98. which is normal. so I talked with Kelly about it and she said probably your body is used to your blood sugars being much higher ( which is true), so now when they get lower then usual, your body starts to tell you. she sadi your body will just adjut after awhile. they will get used to the lower blood sugars. of course when we say lower, we are actually talking about normal ranges.
Hope this helps.
Janice
