Not to be graphic or gross, but your pee is dark almost orange. What ever you do try to drink lots of fluids. I got kidney stones because I didn't drink enough. NOT GOOD!! They hurt worse than anything else I have ever felt in my life. Try propel if you want a different taste, or water down your crystal lite. That's what I did. Keep me posted on how you're feeling!!

It was great to see you in such high spirits in the hospital! I know that seeing you doing so well helped Emmy's normal pre-op concerns.

Hydration is big...I can also personally confirm that. I ended up with a bladder infection that turned into a Kidney infection. The dang Kidney infection was worse than the incision wound!

Not sure if it was the dehydration or the lovely catheter.

I too suffered from dehydration. I was then sent to Urgent Care SRS in RB and Dr. C spoke to the Dr. there. My pee was very dark and odor. Not good. I also felt so tired. This was 1.5 weeks post op. Today I am 4 weeks post-op...wow where time has gone...I am keeping myself much more hydrated.

Hi Mary,

Welcome to the other side. I never could tolerate crystal light in its proper reconstitute. I use one tub per gallon of water as opposed to two tubs per gallon of water. I dilute all my fluids, including propel. Since surgery I am unable tolerate full strength anything, now even if I could I won't ever go back, its half the calories if I drink juice instead of crystal light or propel.

Let me give you an incentive to make sure you get your fluid in. My two pod mates were both named John, so it was John, John, and Johns wife in that order. The first John was not supposed to have any complications because he was a lot lower risk than me or the other John. The first John did not get his sipping in and he bacame dehydrated and his pouch folded back on itself, and he ended back in OR, and a lengthy stay in the hospital.

Maintaining Hydration is the most important task you have at this point in your recovery. Nurses assess for dehydration by pinching the skin on the top of the hand or forearm, this is called turgor. If the skin doesnt spring back immediately we call it tenting. If you can create a tent with your skin you are dehydrated. The others stated already about the amber urine. Just know that you can have amber urine without being dehydrated as well. But dark and maybe concentrated. Also your lips might burn a little, or you might feel a slight sting as if you were exposed to a little bit of sun. You mouth will be dry also, you may or may not be thirsty. It is just best to make sure you continuously sip. Every moment that you are awake or not eating you need to be sipping. At this point your body had its own requirements, and you will not get 64 ounces into your body in 24 hours. There is no set amount for you to drink at this point. Just keep sipping, sipping, sipping. Have that bottle with you at all times. When you walk make sure you carry it with you. Welcome home!

Hugs,

Traci

Actually I think it was his old stomach that folded back on itself, I cannot remember now, but you get the picture.

I was there in spirit. I wish I could've joined in on the visit, but had to get home to the kids.
