Doing it ALL wrong I think
I am so down thinking that I have ruined everything Ive gone through. I wonder if what I eat is making my weight loss so slow.
I cant drink any of the protein drinks, I dont like cottage cheese, I dont like yogurt. I have been able to tolerate meats right from the start, which I am glad cause I need the protein. This is what I eat in a day. I think I must be eating all wrong
Morning - an orange
Mid Morn - 3 oz of tuna with celery and gr pepper
Afternoon - pkg of pretzels with cheese snack - half an apple
Mid Afternoon - small salad with chicken on it
Evening - 3oz of whatever meat we are having, with some veggies
Does this sound like too much food? I have to have the protein so meat is what I have to eat, but am I getting too many carbs? HELPPPPPPPP

First of all how far out are you? Also remember that everyone is different. Some require more food, some less. I happen to be a person who requires less.
As far as the carbs are concerned, I would probably cut out the pretzels and find something else that isn't empty calories. I am not saying you can't do it once in a while, but just don't do it every day if you don't have to. You can also do peanut butter once in a while.. (a personal favorite of mine) eggs are also a great source of protein.
You haven't ruined anything.. think about this and maybe even write it down if you have the nerve.. lol
What did you eat in a typical day before you had surgery? How does it compare to what you eat now?
P.S. I wish I could tollerate tuna.. I loved it!! Now I gag!!
You're doing great.. don't worry sweetie..

Doesn't sound like too much to me, but one thing, the orange for the morning, that is fine, but you really should put some protein in your mouth first thing to jump start your metabolism. Personally I don't eat first thing in the morning, but I do drink milk for a little protein. That is if I have slept the night before. I work nights so I never know when my breakfast time is.
I wish you well.

Pamela:
It sounds like your diet is pretty good. I agree with Christina--there may be snacks that have a little less carbohydrates than pretzels. However, in moderation, pretzels should be okay. You didn't specify what size package of pretzels you eat...there are many different sizes. Did you mean an individual size? My other suggestion would be to have low-fat cheese with your pretzels instead of a cheese snack. I think that "real" low-fat cheese might have less calories and be a little healthier than canned cheese. Otherwise, your diet sounds just fine. And I don't think you're eating too much.
Please don't think you're "doing it all wrong." Each person's weight loss is different. Some people lose weight really fast, and others lose weight a lot slower. It just depends on the person.
I was never able to find a palatable protein drink. Therefore, I decided very early that I would need to eat my protein in food. I started keeping a food diary on FitDay.com and it has enabled me to see EXACTLY what I eat every day. It's been a tremendous help to me.
Keep telling yourself that you started this journey for life. It may take a little longer than you expected, but it is a lifetime commitment of hard work and big payoffs too!
Good luck!

Thanks for the encouragement all!! and the pretzels are just those tiny lil packs, they are listed in my *book* and snacks to use. They are only 91 calories, so Im thinking they arent TOO bad, but I will stop them everyday. As for the orange in the morning..I seem to have a hard time with anything in the mornings, so my first protein meal is mid morning..I had my first egg this week..I loved them before surgery, but now.. YUCK!! But I keep trying..
I am 11 weeks out Christina.. to answer your question.
Isnt it amazing how just hearing from someone else on here, makes you feel better? I sure wish there was a support group like you guys go to.. here in michigan.

You are doing fine. Those tiny packs of the pretzels aren't a bad snack once in a while. Everyone that I know craves the salty, crunchy snacks. That is much better than a bag of potato chips.
I wish you were out here so you could go to our groups!! Let us know if there is anything else you would like to know. Cheese and peanut butter are my two favorite "snacky" items. I know they are packed with fat and calories.. but it is better than what I did in the past, so I am ok with that.
Good luck to you..

Pamela,
I am six weeks out and feel the same way you do. I have been at the same weight for over a week now. I know that I am not eating too much because I am keeping a food diary so that I can look at what I am doing right and wrong. I also walk at least 45 min every day trying to get this weight off. I hate plateus. I hate them very much. I decided to measure myself for the next plateu that hits. That way I can see the measurement change if the scale is not moving. Strangley enough only after a 28 pound loss people are already saying they don't recognize me. But my brain is telling me well that's it for you. All your going to loss is 28 pounds. I know this is not true so I keep fighting. I even kicked up the work out a little bit the other night just to see what would happen. Nothing moved on the scale yet...... I need to stop obsessing with the scale. But on the other hand isn't that why we all did the surgery to loss weight......
On a other note: I think a lot of my problem is CONSTIPATION. I am really having a hard time going to the bathroom if you know what I mean. So far the only thing that works is the combination of these things after 7 days of nothing. 2 stools softeners, 2 laxatives, and one fleet enema, Yes it said it enema and then even after all that you would think big things would happen but it does not. Only little things.
I do understand that much less food is going in so much less food is coming out. But it is really painful after days 7,8,9,. I am hoping this too shall pass. Ha ha ha ha

Stop what you are doing now for consitpation.. trust me I was doing the same thing for months. Try this tea called Smooth move.. it sounds gross but it is good.. Let it steep for up to an hour if you want.. that is what I usually do.. and it works wonders..
Happy pooping..

Pamela and Barbarajo~
Sounds like you're both doing great to me!!
I have the same problem at this point in my journey with constipation, and I'm 7 months out. I'm even trying to eat things that used to make me dump JUST so I can "go" I told myself this morning, that it's just not worth it. I'll do something different, even if I have to run for a Fleet's
Pamela, a good source of protein for me in the first several months of surgery, was refried beans, low fat, of course. They're soft, they have lots of protein, and they're easily prepared in the microwave... Just a thought for you, also, shrimp is my MOST favorite form of protein to this day, it was then, it still is!!
Good luck to you both, keep up the good work, you really are doing VERY well!!!
