Question about Vitamins
I have absolutley nothing to go by except what I read and discuss on these forums... sad but true. Guess the Army doesn't think I might need any information on what to do after my surgery * rolls eyes * ...
Oh well... spouses are used to being left behind... but enough on that... to my question!
I want to take all my vitamins... Currently I take chewable flintstones with iron and a combination of b vitamins including b12 and calcium... all of these are either in liquid form or chewable...
I would love to take biotin and also more vitamin c... is it safe to take a small pill form of these vitamins? i am three weeks out from my surgery... should i wait a bit longer?

My experience of military care is exactly the opposite.
I'm with Madigan (MAMC) in WA - I cannot fault them.
I've just finished doing a 7-session course (called the Bariatric Pathway). Total 12 hours covering everything from post-op nutrition thru weight management and goal setting. The nutritionalist is freely available and we're encourage to make regular visits. They have a superb weekly support group too.
Have you tried asking for more post-op help/advice/support?

Yes. My nutritionist is against any form of WLS... That is a big problem. The surgeon helps me with most of my questions. The Army does not have a support group at BACH, but I am going to talk earnestly to my surgeon about one.
There is very little information that they provide pre/post op. Most of what I know has been from friends who have had the surgery and this forum.
Don't get me wrong... my surgeon did a marvelous job and the aftercare from the nurses was excellent. However they were not bariatric nurses and didn't have much expierence with WLS. At least not first hand knowledge. They were very proffessional though.

My dr had me take 2 chewable muti-vit, B12, zinc, vit C, and calcium. He instructed me to crush and dilute them with water; I just chewed them all. The C and calcium were chewables.
I took the multi, zinc and B12 all together and it was ok. It wasn't gross like you would expect the zinc and b12 to be.

I've been told to take 2 chewable multi-vitamins and 2 chewable calciums a day. I wasn't instructed to take additional supplements, although now I'm in a new state, and I'll be going to see a new surgeon for follow ups..so we'll see what he says. lol
On a side note, I just found these new chewable kids gummy vitamins at Wally World...and they're absolutely YUMMY (and low sugar).

What brand are the chewable gummy vitamins you found? I'm having a hard time with the Flintstones Complete as their taste just doesn't sit with me right.
Thanks,
Teri

hehehe Yea, I was taking chewable Disney Princess vitamins for a while..but the taste started getting to me. These gummies are so nummy...I actually look forward to taking my vitamins!!
They are OneSource Active Kids Gummies Multivitamin. The ingredients aren't that healthy when you read them...corn syrup, sugar, etc.. but the content of those nasty ingredients is very low, and because they taste so good, I remember to take them every day and I get in the vitamins I need.

Thanks so much! I will look for them. With me, if something tastes yucky, I'm not gonna react to it very well. I have been forcing myself to chew the Flintstones but they leave my pouch feeling woosey.
I don;t care if I have to double the gummies to get enough vitamins in me as long as they taste good!
Thanks again,
Teri
