Question Strange symptom

First you probably need to know that I have only had about 3-4 times when I actually threw up. I didn't have any of the usual symptoms of dumping, but I call it dumping anyhow, although all I ever threw up was the brown yucky stuff.

Tonight I had a instance of near-dumping - I never actually threw up. For supper, I grilled a small chicken tender and had it with some brocolli. The first bite of the chicken, and my pouch was unsettled. It's done that before, and I usually am able to finish my meal (or most of it) and go on - tonight I didn't make it through the meal - let the cat share the rest. I made it to the bathroom, thinking I would throw up and then feel better, but never did and the feeling passed eventually.

HERE'S THE STRANGE PART: After I started eating, my nose started running - totally all stopped up and dripping. It cleared up after the feeling that I was going to throw up passed. It was stopped up and dripping ONLY while I was feeling the effects of the chicken (or the brocolli - but I think it was the chicken).

Has anyone else ever experienced any other strange symptoms like this?

Hmmm..

I still have some issues with solids but one thing that always happens if the solids are not to stay with me....

I begin to cough
I find myself swallowing over and over again.

If the coughing and the swallowing does not stop with in a few minutes my food always comes up.

It is like clock work....sometimes at the first cough..I stop eating.

Hang in there

My nose gets insanely runny when I have pouch issues, too... every time I've thrown up, it'e been preceeded by a major nose-run. SOMETIMES the nose gets runny and I DON'T end up throwing up up-- usually if I notice it starting, I immediately stop eating because I know what usually comes next.

Also, I might be wrong on this (and if so, someone please tell me), but I think throwing up and dumping aren't necessarily the same thing... I was under the impression that dumping is an adverse reaction to WHAT you eat-- i.e., fatty food, sugary food, etc. These foods give the symptoms of extreme fatigue, diarrhea, dizziness, etc., not necessarily throwing up. The OTHER pouch issue is when you eat too much and/or don't chew enough, and the food has nowhere to go but up-- that's what happens to me when I throw up, but I didn't think that was considered "dumping."

Thumbs up

I agree...I do not consider mine "dumping"
I have only "dumped" one time in over 2 1/2 years.

All my little issues yet I am not even a "dumper"

I never throw up when I dump... I just get nauseous, my belly hurts, I get light headed and shaky. I end up laying down for about 45 minutes.

I fact only once since surgery have I thrown up and it was when i drank to much and then a tiny little bit came back up. Now I have had the dry heaves at least 3 times a week since surgery..... that's been lot fo fun! Nothing ever comes up except some foam early out... now nothing.

Sinus stuff.... my surgeon asked me specifically if i got a stuffy or runny nose when i felt crappy and when I said yes... she said that's the stomach acid.

Sorry you were feeling yucky. maybe it was somethign you used to cook the chicken in? Or maybe just pissy pouch?

I hope you are feeling better now!

I always get a runny nose when I am getting too full. I pay attention to this because if I eat one bite after my nose runs I have to throw up. It's wierd but its a good sign that I am done eating.

Oh absolutely! I've only thrown-up 3-4 times too, but if I'm starting to feel bad, my nose runs like a faucet! Who knows....

Have had that odd little symptom since my 1st surgery 19 years ago. And it continues on...as others have said, I take it as a warning to stop eating immediately.

never put it together... I have the runny nose thingy... I guess if it's acid production that would explain why my nose runs constantly sometimes. Janie
