Birth Control
Ok girls I haven't been on here much due to the fact I'm working and going to school. I go to school 4 nights a week so its keeping me pretty busy. Now to my question I've been going around and around for almost 2 months with my PCP about birth control. I am on the pill now but I'm so afraid that I think its messing with my head. My PCP doesn't want me on the patch for some reason or won't call it in so my who question is what about the shot. Has anyone tried the shot. His office offers that so I'm willing to try anything I just will not have a baby now.
HELP

Love the Shot
I love the shot it works for 3 months at a time most insurance cover it at no charge cuz a nurse can administer it and you dont get a period or cramps or pms or any of those icky girl things..I am having my tubes tied but I think I am still gonna stay on the shot cuz of all the benifits. Usually with the shot one side affect is weight gain but being gastric bypass patients we dont have to worry about that. So I say you should research to see if the shot works for you. As for me I love It...And way to go with the school and work deal keep up the great work.

ive been shot!
i get the shot... go for it! It has been about 8 months that I have been on it, and its alll good... but then again I havent been doing it either, I guess side effect wise its all good! I have heard that we malabsorb the pill.... better use an additional form of birth control. (Like foam) I have also been told the most effective method for us would be an IUD... look into that. Im thinking about it as well. A big plus to it, it lasts like 5 years... so you dont have the daily reminder of the pill, or the 3 month visits for the shot..... GO IUD, GO IUD!!!! Im thinking about switching myself...... for what reason I have no idea..... like I said Im not doing anything anyways

IUD Info
Well just some info on the IUD, i work for Reproductive Medicine at a hospital and now some stuff about IUD, Some people experiance major bleeding because the body is trying to expell the IUD or thinks u are having a missed abortion, you can get preg. on the IUD my mom did and she had to have it removed and she ran the risk of losing the preg. thank God she didnt cuz I love my sister. The Merina IUD is good for 5 years and lets off a hormone kinda like the pill or the shot and can work the same way like no periods but again everyones body will react differntly my body well It was a bloody nightmare not to be to graphic...my body was trying to get rid of it so thats when i opted for the shot. Research research research is the key. and call ur insurance to see if the IUD is covered I have Hnet HMO and mine was 500bucks...Good luck ladies. Im only on the shot cuz of the benefits of no period and such..You have to actually do it to get prego..lol...

Sooooo. you have a boyfriend right? So do you "do it" regularily and feel that the shot is effective? Just curious... not trying to pry, but if in the even I do find that one, I would wind up pregnant on BC ya know..... ???? Maybe I should just date chicks... then I wouldnt need the BC... lol!

Well
I Have Been On And Off The Shot For 4 Years And It Works No Doubt When You Are With Someone Like Long Term Me And My Kids Dad Never Got Preg. While On The Shot Its When I Switched To The Mini Pill I Got My Little Boy Michael. So I Stand By The Shot There Is No Way You Can Get Preg. On The Shot If Ur Unprotected As Long As For The First month of Getting The Shot You Have To Use Something To Let The Shot Kick In After That You Are Safe You Wont Get Pregnant.

I hated the shot. I gained 60 pounds in 3 months when I took it 13 years ago. I know it is different now, just do your research. I am on the pill but am going to ask about the patch now that I am near goal. You have to be below 190 or 170 to be on the patch.
