Could it be a salt addiction??? or
Hi everyone,
I am just 8 months post op and down over 100 lbs. I am feeling really good but the last few weeks, I have not dropped one pound and actually have gained one pound. I know what I need to do and have been working on it but I have a question about salt.....
I love crackers, my favorites are Goldfish (cuz I can eat a few a feel good) and these stinking Sesame Rice crackers I have found at Trader Joe's. When I want a snack, these are always what I go to. I do not eat bread, rice or pasta and figure the crackers cannot be so bad but I am wondering if it is the salt that my body is craving. I do not salt my food when I eat it, I just use pepper so maybe I am not getting enough salt. My husband told me he saw some program on tv about addictions to salt...could this be true.
Any thoughts from all you wise people??

dunno about a salt addiction, but I eat a lot of sunflower seeds, and I know that when I do it helps to keep my weight stable. When I don't my weight starts to drop and go all over the place. Janie

Goldfish Girl here too!
I have always craved salt post -op.
I can remember licking the salt off of chips before I introduced carbs back into my food choices.
I also had some dizzy spells where I was passing out...Both my PCP and the cardiologists told me to add more salt to my diet.I have had not had any issues with becoming dizzy/passing out since.

Sometimes craving salt can indicate anemia...as can craving ice.

WOW
I crave salt too.
I have always had a low salt diet as my Dad through illness could not have salt. What surprise me is that craving ice could mean you are anemic. I always want ice pops and ans salty food.
Thanks for the heads up will discuss it with my surgeon on the next visit.

Possibility
My nutritionist told me I might be craving salt (and I do, constantly) for two reasons--one, my body wants to hold water because otherwise I dehydrate, and two, my blood pressure constantly stays low post-op, and my body is trying to keep it from going too low. I wasn't aware that my body was that stinking smart (it showed no signs of being intelligent pre-op... ) but was willing to accept her ideas as a working hypothesis.

Do you think that ...
maybe we all used to eat a LOT more salt which was hidden in fast food, restaurant food, processed and junk food?
I know that I hardly ever eat those things now. The processed food is a huge place for hidden salt and I find that a lot of that food tastes yucky now.
Just a thought
