Default Tummy/ Rib muscle pain

Has anyone experienced this???

Since surgery I have had an intense pressure and burning on the right side of my upper rib under the sternom (sp?)

Doc. C said it was normal because he stretches and moves the muscles around to get in to do open surgery.

As time went by it got better, however I notice that when I use my muscles even slightly, like when on the treadmill or even when I went back to work and walked alot.

The pain makes it difficult to wear an underwire bra (and trust me a need the underwire!! l.o.l)

Waiting to hear from ya'll!!

Hi Rain,

I had an intense pain and burning also, and I went to my pcp, he said it was an ulcer, I was just about 2 months out and thats when I wasn't eating anything but drinking only milk. It was bad. It started getting really bad my first night back at work and after three days I had to take another month off, I took nexium in samples that my Dr. gave me, but when they ran out they cost 150 bux, I said no way. I now take aciphex and seldom have the pain anymore. I had it last night on my way to work but I figured it was a lack of protein for a few days making it act up. I thought it was gall bladder at first but I had the upper GI done and it showed all clear. When I got the pain if I ate it would go away for a little while, but come back worse. I started eating carrots and beef jerky and taking my aciphex. I gave up all my other medications, heart pills, blood pressure pills, lipitor. Aciphex is the only Rx I get now. My cholesterol is still a little high, but much lower than it was and everything else is well within normal limits. My worst fear has and still is that of the twisted bowel, nothing to mess around with and one of the deaths on the memorial page was caused by a twisted bowel. I also had severe pain on my left side, after surgery, and was the reason I hit my magic button every six minutes, that pain was the old stomach, and I always believed that was my old stomach starving to death and living without food. That was gone after a few weeks. Ibuprofen causes the pain. Not one or two several days apart, but ibuprofen daily causes pain. It was so bad I actually thought I was going to have to go back in and have a reverse done.

One thing I did was to not starve my body more than it already was. You know when you diet your body thinks it is starving so it goes to a store the fat for later mode. Our food supply was virtually cut off after surgery, so when we were able to add more and more foods, after the initial no sugar no fat, no dairy, I began to eat as a normal person would. I didn't eat plain baked potato, I had cheese and butter on it. I started on 2% milk early with Kelly's permission because of the protein shakes making me ill so bad, I just couldn't take that stuff, still can't. I didn't want to completely shut down my gallbladder. I think for me I did the right thing, because I knew eventually I would begin to eat again, and try this or that, and I felt that the drop from 3000 calories to 400 was drastic enough. I have always since three months out left in the little extra calories. I can lose weight on 1500 calories, so a little butter on my toast or cream in my coffee was a little insurance that when I did become able to eat that stuff again my body wouldn't store it as fat. The pain is there now and again, but for the most part the aciphex takes care of it. Not to mention that nothing is palatable anymore, so that little extra taste for me was what got me through, because without it I probably wouldn't eat at all. I quit milk for a couple months thinking it was what was causing the problem, but when I got the pain again after two months without milk, I went back to my milk. The pain is never as bad as it was those couple months when I thought I would have to reverse the procedure. Last night on my way to work it was on the verge of being bad, but then it went away after I ate two bites. I hope you resolve this soon.

Hugs,

Traci

Thank you Traci for your reply, but the pain I experience is not internal. It is very much muscle pain as it gets worse with physical exertion.

Since no one else has replied I am guessing this is not normal? Maybe I will call Dr. C office today.

If someone else has had this problem, please reply.

Rain

Thumbs up Rain

I get that too sometimes. Dr. C said it is normal. I know others who get it as well. It is on the right side. I also get incisional pain when I stretch too far backwards.. but I have to realize that it takes longer than I expected to be 100% again.

I think you're fine.. but if you are truly worried, do not hesitate to call Dr. C just in case. I too have an ulcer and I know that causes pain with the bra thing.. so you may want to check with him anyway.. just in case..

Good luck to you my friend..

Default Rain

I had pain in the upper right and lower left sides of my tummy shortly after surgery. I'm now 6 weeks out (-1 day) and no longer have the pain. I think Ed is right. They sure messed with lots of STUFF in there. No wonder we are sore!

Hope your pain lets up soon!

Traci

I have taken what you said out of context but you mention procedure reversal twice in one post.

I was under the impression and everything i have read considers gastric bypass irreversible. I am just curious why you think you can get that reversal done???

Hi Rain,
I am 10 weeks out, and still have pain with exertion or stretching, sometimes even walking too much causes it to hurt. My doc says it is muscle from everything they did during surgery. I keep wondering when it will go away too.

Thanks everyone.

I feel better today, I haven't worked out since last Tuesday and I think maybe it is related to the treadmill incline. Ohh, the plight to be tight!!!

I'm gonna take it a little easier at the gym and see how I do.

Over all I feel like I won the lottery of life.

Food no longer possesses my head!!!
