Dumping question
What does dumping feel like? Is it actual pain, or is it more like nausea? I was on vacation this past week and ate some crab cake (I know I probably should not have ) and was really nauseated afterwards and almost threw up. Was that dumping, or just nausea?

It's all different
Everyone's reactions are different to a certain extent, and every time is different for me. Dumping is when your system dumps insulin into your body to deal with what it feels like is an overload. This can be because you've eaten sugar, or because you've eaten too fast, or for some people because they've eaten a high-fat food.
For me, dumping is always signaled first by breaking into a sweat without apparent reason. That can be followed by anything from passing out to nausea to vomiting to diarrhea to pain. Just depends on what I ate, how much of it, and how irritated Matilda (my pouch) is that particular day. You can also have nausea, diarrhea, vomiting or pain just from the physical action of the food on your pouch, whether it's overfilling it, or too rough, or just something that makes your pouch say, "take it back! ain't doing it!" The only invariable for me is the heat--feeling overheated when I haven't done anything except eaten something.

I am 3 months post op, and I've never experienced what Lisa has indicated.
However, I have experienced that tight feeling in the upper stomach, the foaming in the mouth that feels like a bile-like saliva, and a bit of nausea, sometimes throwing up. It hasn't happened in a while because I am doing only what Oscar (my pouch) allows me to do. I don't like it when he becomes Oscar the Grouch!
For me, I think this happened when I ate too much, or didn't chew enough (because I was distracted by conversation, etc.).

i agree everyone is differant . when i dump sometimes its mild and only last 20 minutes but at least 1 other time i lasted 4 hours , that one was terrible , started out wth the hot flashes , then the shakes , pain in the abdomon , feeling as though i was going to vomit but never did, light headed . but my last dump which was last night (im 8weeks pregnant ) . i had a chocolate craving , so i had a small serving of chocolate cereal with milk . must have went overboard , cuz i got the hot flashes , shakes and nausea but only lasted 20 minutes . thank god. these cravings are getting me in trouble.

I've only dumped twice in my nearly 6 months in loser-land and both times followed the exact same protocol (in this order): hot flash, racing pulse, abdominal cramping, diarrhea, nausea, tiny bit of vomit and off to sleep for a half hour or so. This of course is me and I've heard similar and vastly different.
