I gained weight....YEA!
I'm finally back up to 123 pounds... Im so excited.
So heres the final scoop from the new surgeon and all the tests I did to figure out why I"m so sick all the time....
My pouch was made out of the least elastic part of the stomach and at 9 months out is still it's original 20cc, has not stretched at all. A normal pouch is 30cc to start and stretches to double in the normal course of things.
My bypass is a little long for my digestive system.... she said it happens rarely.... that 100cm is very normal and tolerated well by 99% of the people who have this surgery... funny me being that 1% huh? She also said mne looked to 105cm which can happen if the surgeon drops the loop after measuring but that it shouldn't make that much of a difference. She also said I had an excellent surgeon...she knows Dr. Klein.
The opening from my pouch to the small intestine is widened to about 50% larger than it should be allowing the food to pass too quickly through the pouch and flowing to quickly to the colon... not absorning enough to help nutritionally....
My old stomach is producing way to much acid to compensate for this free flowing food fest going on down there... so it is backing up tot he pouch causing irritation, the poop issues and all the above isse contribute to my massive amounts of gas/bleching.
She said she's never seen anyone with so much gas after GBS as she saw on my tests.
I also have the "mother of all scar tissue" going on in my abdomen(sp?).... a small 2.5cm incisional hernia and it looks like the repair the original surgeon did in the mesentaric shield may not have held all that great!
So my options are.....
1. reversal
2. revision
3. Take some meds and learn to live with it!
As of today I'm going for curtain number 3. At least until I"m 18 months out and then we will re-address the issue. Until then I am taking Prevacid to reduce acid production, Pepcid to heal my pouch, counseling to deal with the known and unknown, a trainer to help build my strength back and eating like a champion to keep my weight stabile. As long as I do that... I'm good.
She is going to see me every month for the next 6 months to monitor my labs and weight and pain issues.
I'm just so excited to see a surgeon that didn't tell me "it's all in my head", that I'm just "depressed take another pill" or "are you better than you were two months ago? Well then see you are getting better" or "one of my other paitents used this on her dog for gas so we decided to try it on her and it worked!" Seriously a surgeon actually told me this... Dr. Machado actually burst out laughing when I told her that story.....
Anyway we both agreed we wouldn't talk about more surgery until I was at least 18 months out unless I need to go on TPN before that. Here's to praying for NO TPN......
I think Im happy with a doctor for the first time in 9 months, she didn't sugar coat anything, acknowledged that all my choices right now are pretty sucky... but that she is there and we will deal with things as they come up.
I think the bright spot is a little light at the end of the tunnel.... pray it's not a train!
Smoochies from Nor Cal and I hope everyone has a wonderful and safe 4th!

Paige,
So happy you've put on a little weight, and have found a doctor who truly seems to be listening and HEARING what you've been saying! I'm glad she's monitoring you, and that you DO have some options.

Paige I think number 3 is a great choice. Less invassive. Would you ever think you would be happy to gain weight? What a tool. My fingers are crossed the meds work.

Glad to hear you actually found out...
what's going on. Sound all too familar. I opted as you know for the revision, but hopefully the med.s will do the job for you. Glad to know that you're feeling better spiritually now let's get that physical part up to par as well.
By the way... how's the hubby doing? I hope he's doing well.
Have a great 4th!
Sharon

Thanks guys for the kind words....
today so far kind of sucked.....
Woke up vomitting and had a belly ache all day... praying it's a one shot day thing.......
Just complaining now I guess...
Sharon... you know a revision/reversal isnt' what I want at this point... if they go back in it's going to be to reverse this and I"m done with surgery forever... I'm just scared because of the scar tissue. I'm going to stick it out for the whole 18 months but I'm not loving life. I wish i was a brave as you and could make that choice now but vision of 9 months of nausea dance through my head everytime I think of it... what if I end up worse?

Paige, its SO GREAT to hear that they found out what is causing you issues. Not knowing is the worst.
I am glad that they have options for you and that you can take time to decide what to do. Very, very interesting results that they found. I am sure most of us would love to know our stats like that.
