Hubby is now 3 weeks out and is having a lot of stomachaches....

My surgery was to long ago to remember what the first fwe weeks were like so anyone of the newbies can jump in here please...

at almost 4 weeks what level of solids were you eating...like ceral and hot dogs or still doing puree stuff?

How much drinking were you getting in?

I still have stomach aches. I need to be very careful of volume. I stayed on soft foods for eight weeks and still don't eat any processed foods (hot dogs?)
Tilapia, cottage cheese, marinara sauce, Water all day long and salt intake. I also found that the Gas-x Strips help my tummy. Stay hydrated is #1 and then protien.....

I said hot dogs because I think Baron said he was eating them already......

Have you asked your doc about the belly aches yet? Oscar is eating mostly soft stuff still and volume seems to be an issue. last night he tried to eat a SF FF ice cream and got sick... too much at one time I think.

He also tried WEndy's chilli after I put it in the food processor and it went down okay. Lots of fluid... he also gets at least 80 grams of protein a day from supplements and a little more from food. How much food would you say you can eat in one sitting right now?

It's hard for me to judge because I'm 9+ months out and I still get stomachaches....

talapia is a fish... a very yummy light full of protein and not dry...fish.

I also eat a lot fo salmon but only if it's fresh fresh fresh because otherwise it get dry and fishy..

Make sure you don't overcook fish... makes it gross and dry, easy to upset the tummy.

I've been eating Talapia for years. I love it poached, grilled and baked.

My favorite breakfast during winter is a talapia with garlic fried rice and diced/salted tomato. (My wife is from the philippines.)

As for the hotdogs, I'm eating Foster Farms turkey, grilled (only way I will eat any hotdog). We also found some turkey hamburger patties, so guess what were having on the 4th.!

We also picked up some turkey meatballs and shaved turkey (very, very thin). I roll the shaved turkey in slices of swiss cheese. Two of those and that makes a great lunch!

I had stomach aches, but you know my story. I had an ulcer. Mine ached from the time I got home until it was discovered at 6 weeks out. Is he nauseated or vomiting??? Is it a burning pain or just an ache?

I LOVE talapia, but it don't love me. I still try to eat it! I just am miserable for a bit.

I sprinkle it with Lawry's seasoning salt and spray with buttered flavored PAM and bake in tinfoil. YUMMMMMMMM

Paige, I was eating around 1/3 cup when I was out as far as your hubby, but I was still on pureed foods at that time. So solids might be harder to eat that much. I believe a few bites would have done me in. Somteimes that was all I had room for anyway. A hotdog at that stage would have killed me. Still can't do them and I crave a good old fashion one! Was not allowed solids until 6 weeks and then found out I had the ulcer so was on full liquid diet until almost four months out. (Figures the day I could start eating solids this would happen. I do NOTHING the easy way! LOL) I could not even eat a whole egg when I first started solids. So don't worry about the amount so much. My surgeon and nutritionist told me to just do the best I could and that it would eventually become a cup for each meal. I still can't do a cup of anything unless it's a soup or salad. Anything with bulk and I'm done at 1/2 a cup or less and I'm over a year out now.

As far as fluids, it was hard to get the amount up to 60 oz a day early out, but I believe I was making the mark around 10 to 12 weeks. Just constantly sip ALL DAY! I started drinking with a straw too because Dr. Dyann said she used one and it helped her get more fluids in, so I tried and for some strange reason it worked. Don't know why, but did. So maybe he can try that.

I would tell his doc about the tummy aches. He may be developing an ulcer. If so, you want to catch it EARLY! Let us know how he's doing.
