Question Exercise

Hi. This is the first time I have ever put anything on a message board. I had my surgery about 2 1/2 weeks ago. Right now, I am supposed to walk 10 min. 4 times a day. Sounds like a piece of cake to me, except I'm not doing more than twice. I fell like I'm being self-defeating. Anyone with any words of wisdom?

Default Lad,

Do as much as you can and slowly increase. The fear of blood clots should help motivate you. Now, go walk!

everyone has to do it at their own pace. Over doing it will discourage you. Do what you can and don't worry, it gets easier with time.

We were told to walk every two hours during the daylight.

After 3 weeks of walking I got so bored with walking I shifted gears and started swimming.

I still can't believe I swim every morning now Mon-Fri before I go to work.

6 1/2 months later I still hit that pool at 6am.

I think they operated on my brain too, I haven't swam with any consistancy since I played Waterpolo in highschool.

Whatever it takes to get your exercise on, do it. They say they want you heart rate at around 120 for at least 20 min a day. Of course always consult with your surgeon's office before doing anything!

Default wanna swim?

Hey Gerry,
Just out of curiousity....do you swim at a gym or in a backyard pool.

The reason I ask is I have a pool. I am tempted to go in it as I do have solar and it is around 60 degrees. Do you think I could swim or would I freeze??

Watergirl,
Thanks for asking. Still slow. Yesterday, I felt ill, so slept most of the day. Today I feel better so I'm going out soon. My treadmill broke and I've arranged for repair.
PS You had surgery on my birthday!

Default Lad,

See, I knew it was going to be a lucky day! LOL! To have my surgery on 8.9!
I'm glad to hear that you are feeling better. It will get better each and every day, I promise.

I didn't go out at all to walk. For that matter, I didn't venture out of the house unless I really had to prior to and immediately following surgery. I did laps around my house, but avoided the stairs. Yes, it was boring, but the blood clots risk scared me so much, I Just Did it! To quote a famous sports name.

Best of luck to you and keep us posted!

Kim, Thanks for checking up on me. I went to the mall and walked there. But that could be dangerous to my budget. But there's lots to look at and the weather is always good. I'm trying to remember that I'm starting a new way of life.
