Default Sad and Frustrated

Hey ya'll~

Boy, I've had like the worst 24 hours. Yesterday my calves both started aching real bad. It felt muscular so I thought it was just from walking a lot. Then at 3am I got up with horrific leg cramps and a bad headache. I can't sleep. I'm pretty sure my potassium is low. I took 30 MEQ to give it a boost up. I'm just miserable. I'm still having such trouble eating, I feel like I'm in a bad state of malnutrition. Yesterday I ate about 1oz of shaved rotesserie chicken, and about a 1/4 of a lean cuisine shrimp and angel hair pasta. The day before I had 2 protien vials, 2oz of cheese, and something else I can't remember. I just hate eating. I get a slight twinge of hunger every once in a while and try to eat. But more than like 2 TBS is too much food. Most things do not go down well even chewed to death. And I throw up probably 1/4 of what I eat. Drinking is OK, I get probably 75% of my fluids in. I go to my PCP thursday and will get labs done. I'll go to the ER if these leg cramps don't get better soon. I'd go now but if I need IV's I have to get a central line put in under fluroscopy. Sorry for whining, Please keep me in your prayers.

Deb, I'm so sorry you are having such a rough go at it. Glad to hear you are getting into the doctor tomorrow. I'm concerned that you may have a stricture going on. It sure sounds like a possibilty. For now just take it really easy with that pouch of yours. I wouldn't even bother with the solids and work on the liquids and liquid protein. You need to keep yourself hydrated. The leg cramps could be dehydration but they are something I've heard can happen after surgery, I've just never experienced them myself. Take care sweetie...and if the pain gets too bad get into ER.

I hated low potassium.... try V8 juice if you can keep it down, it has lots of potassium.

Sorry to hear you aren't doing well... hang in there and just try to get fluids. Both low potassium and dehydration causes nausea.

Good hear you are going to see the doc. I'll keep you in my prayers.

I had a few potassium issues early on when I started working out again after surgery - I found that some of the liquidy yogurts have a lot . .. and they are pretty easy on a pouch if you can eat dairy. Look a a few of the yogurt drink things at the store . . . maybe they will help with your liquids and your cramps.

Deb I hope everything falls into place soon. I see that you are about 6 1/2 weeks post-op. You are still fresh out. Not feeling hungry is a normal feeling. But I would keep a close eye on those leg cramps. Have you notified your surgeon of this? My fear is a clot. Deb you are in my prayers. I wish there was something I could say to make you feel better. Keep us posted on how things turn out.

Default some improvement

Thanks to ya'll for your concern and suggestions. After taking 50 MEQ of potassium yesterday I feel some better. Those cramps are so painful. I go to my appt. today at 2pm and will get labs done etc. Then I will make an appt with my surgeon. Denise, I don't think it is a clot. I've had some before and they don't feel like this. Clots feel more like throbbing, inflamation. This is more muscle pain, achey cramps. I did talk to my Doc last night too and he agreed. If I had even a suspiscion it was a clot I'd go in immediately. So don't worry, but thanks Denise.
