Default Two days out of hospital

Hi everyone, my surgery was on May 15 (open Roux-en-Y), all went well. I stayed at the hospital for 5 days, walked three times a day, felt pretty well, all things considered.

I have been home now for two days and have started to freak out. I hate being locked up in the house watching tv with pretty much nothing else to do but carry a cup of juice/broth/jello around. For some reason I'm triyng not to take any meds for the pain (stupid?), I'm frustraded and sad.

Also, is it normal to crave foods at this stage? I'm not hungry but am certainly drooling at every commercial with anything you can eat in it. I want to do well and am scared that I won't make it if ony two days after leaving the hospital I feel this way.

Hi Elisse~! welcome...yup, that's head hunger, you are mourning your old friend food. PERFECTLY normal! If you hurt, take the meds...there's no need to tough it out! This is called hell week for a reason...take it easy...your main job right now is to sip, rest, walk and relax and heal. Congratulations!

OH MY!!! Pizza commercials are THE DEVIL!!!!! Pay no attention sweetie, it will go away. I cried and cried because I wanted pizza, now that I have lost 54 pounds, I don't care about it! Keep your head up and if you like to do crossword puzzles, it helps!

Congratulations elisse!
I am a week away from surgery right now, and on a liquid diet. Until this, I never realized how MANY food commercials there were. My gosh, it seems like every few minutes I see something that gives me a craving. It is criminal

It gets better! Trust me! I remember the days of broth and jello...it was no party! Soon you will be able to add flavor to your diet! I would go on kicks..where I'd have Wendy's chili every day for lunch for a month! Then I went on a tuna/cracker kick...then a soup kick! You'll find there's good stuff to eat that won't hurt you. I still have a slice (just 1) of pizza every once in awhile. It doesn't bother me, and didn't add any weight when I had it. Your life isn't over after WLS..it's just beginning! You'll find you don't crave the bad stuff after awhile. I'm at home today...sick....and of all the things to have for lunch, I chose a piece of leftover salmon and some garbanzo/kidney beans! In the old days, that would be my LAST choice! You really do get into the "protein first" mode after awhile. It sticks! Remember, it takes 21 days to make...or break a habit....after that, you got it!!!

Hey congrats on making it through! You're doing really well! The head hunger thing will go in time - I know it's torture but just think about how putting on that size 12 dress will feel a whole lot better than a piece of pizza! You'll soon get to the point where food just becomes something you eat to survive rather than something you crave.

Good luck on your journey - you will be fab!

Default ahhh...

Yep, I know exactly how you feel!! as we all do ...been there!!! I know how hard it is and you know being 6 weeks out it is still hard somtimes, I yet to have pizza though too darn scared and not only that i really like seeing the weight come off, but in the begining i think every commercial was food!! i too would just cry and say i really want that!! But, I did do something really stupid in the begining and really too embarressed to talk about that again and it took me forever to get over it!! and dont go without your pain meds that is what there for and for me they not only helped with the pain but for me it helped with the hunger or "head hunger"!! Also if there is way for you to get out of the house for awhile do it you will feel so much better!! Just dont feel like your alone cuz your not we all are here and have felt the same way!! Take care of yourself and keep us posted!!
