Am I on track?
Hello all,
I have a question. I will be 8 weeks out next Wednesday. I have only lost 35 lbs. I am a little frustrated. I think I should be losing more. I have to admit I have not been exercising consistantly. I hardly eat anything. I am 5'2", started at 287.5 now I am 252. Just need some opinions.
Thanks,
Christy

You are doing fine!! It isn't smart to compare yourself to others. Everyone loses at a different pace. If you feel like you have slowed down try up'ing your calories and protein intake. If you aren't eating enough you will send your body into starvation mode. It will be SOOOO worried that it won't be seeing any more calories that it hangs on to it's fat (energy supply) with all of its might. When you up your calories your body relaxes and let's go of the fat because it knows there will be an ample supply of calories for energy. Make sense?

At 8 weeks, I was only down 34 lbs. I was a little discouraged, too-- it seems like you always hear stories of people losing like a hundred pounds in the first 6 months, you know? Well that definitely wasn't me!
Listen to Beth, she gives great advice-- it can be a vicious cycle to get into the habit of comparing your loss to others. I am almost at 6 months and I am down 73 lbs... but the last 6 weeks, the losses have been like mental torture. For the first 3 of the last 6 weeks, I lost only 2 lbs... and then in the LAST 3 weeks, I lost 11.
So it really makes no sense sometimes... all you can do is just keep working the program, follow Pouch Rules, and exercise exercise exercise, and your body will sort things out on its own time.

You are doing awesome! We all lose at different rates and if you take a peek at the men on here....Wow! They lose much faster than women! I've learned to not focus on the rate, but just the fact that it's going down. This is a radical change to your body, your emotions, your mind, etc. When was the last time you lost weight consistently at that rate and kept it off??
This isn't a diet race, this is a journey to freedom from food and to a better life!! I am now 4 months out and have lost 58 lbs and about 4 sizes. It really helped when I started taking measurements. One month, I lost more inches than weight. So you need to look at the big picture....are you shrinking in size, is your shape changing, do you feel good???? Also, make sure you get the protein, water, and some exercise in. You are doing great!!

I "only" lost 32 lbs by eight weeks......look at me now! When was the last time you lost soooo much weight in such a short time frame? Yes, you want it all to happen now...but it's a process...it didn't take 8 weeks to gain that much weight. You can only compare to your self.....what have you done before? What worked before, if anything? Congratulate yourself on taking on the responsibility for your life by having the surgery in the first place. Celebrate that you have lost 36 lbs! Buy a new shirt ( a size or two smaller since you'll under grow it soon )to commentate your success!

thank you so much everyone
Thank you everyone. You all give such great advice! I feel much better. I am getting about 50-60 grams of protien in. I will try to up that. I will also get my butt outside more for more walking. I have gone from a size 28 pants to size 22. I can still wear the size 28 but it is very big. It really depends on the cut. Today I have on size 22 blue jean capris but have not tried on any other size 22 so it don't know if it these jeans that run big or if I really can wear a size 22. The jeans are stretchy material.
I guess I just worry that I won't lose weight. I keep forgeting that I will lose weight. I know it is crazy but I think that I will be the one person that the surgery does not work on.
Enough of the rambling. Thanks everyone!
Christy

Hey, Christy –We have the same surgery dates! We could be twins – I’m 5’3” and started out at 266 – down to 230.8 now – so I’ve lost 35 pounds, too! I went on fitday.com and entered in all I eat and found out that in the last month, I averaged 520 calories per day and 34 grams of protein. (I haven’t found a protein supplement that I like yet) But just entering all that food and trying to get it as accurate as possible, I am more conscious of protein and I’m hopefully going to get more protein in. It’s crazy, isn’t it – that we can eat so little and our bodies react by refusing to let go of the fat! I think that Beth has the right idea – but it’s really hard to get in any more food that what we’re doing when you can only hold so much!
Still, 35 pounds in 7 weeks is about 5 pounds a week – not too shabby!
Keep up the good work and keep in touch!
Carol

I think we have all had the thought "I'm the only one this surgery won't work on" at one point or another!

35 pounds is GREAT! I think you answered your own questions - exercise and food. Even a short 20-30 minute walk a day makes a difference and its VERY important for you to get in enough food...maybe you are not getting enough actual food vs. liquids. You don' say how much food or type...but you will read here how important it is to keep hydrated and eat food.
Its very hard not to compare yourself to someone else or to some stupid chart. Its life and its hard. I talked a lot about numbers and loss for the first year, but in reality...we have to do that to know what are standings are. Just like the BMI chart, some people hate it, but its one of the tools to "chart" people. I am still loosing inches at my point...its a good thing..I don't want to loose more weight, but inches tell me I am replacing muscle with fat. Hang in there...

It's that the truth! When nothing has worked in the past, its hard to believe even WLS will! We all just have to keep the faith...
