Default Quick Long question???

Ok got quick question. Ok i am getting my surgery done May14. Now How long did most of you guys and gals stay in your house, and do you really stay in bed most of the time or what! Like what do guys do besides recovering. reason i ask is because i have a shore house and i wanna go down for Memorial day weekend...which is about 11 days later. Now the way i look at it, is its the same as my house, reason i rather be at my shore house is because i would be wit all my friends and not be home bored out my mind(yeah i get bored easily). At my shore house i have everything i have at home, full kitchen and etc...my own room, same size bed, full shower...etc etc etc. The way i look at it, I am still gone be on my diet, i am not gonna drink alcohol, i not going clubbing or to the beach or anything like that. Really just going down to spend time wit my friends and speed up my recovery! What you guys think?? and of course i will ask my Surgeon this same question b4 i go down, but i wanted to see what u guys thought about it. Thanks in advance!

Well, Congratulations on your date!
No, you should not need to be in bed all day, everyday. I think you will need to rest when you feel tired, walk around as much as your body can take it. By day 11, you should be able to do what you want to do, however, you may be a bit tired so try not to push it. You will know, your body will tell you~try not to push yourself even if you feel bored!
Good luck!

Default Do what's necessary

Whatever it takes to make you feel comfortable, do it... I was driving within about a week of the surgery - they generally say after 24 hours without pain pills, you can drive. However, if you're going to the shore house immediately after surgery, just make sure you know where the nearest emergency room is (just in case, not saying anything will happen) and be aware that riding in a car the first few days after surgery can be danged uncomfortable.

Oh - and everyone reacts to the surgery differently, so there's no way to tell whether you want to be around people during your first week. I was completely miserable and not good company, but a number of people on the forum have said they did fine the first week. You won't know until you get there.

Good luck with your surgery, wish you the best.

Good luck, I got home yesterday and have not spent anytime at all in bed but rather tried to stay busy, short walk, time on internet etc. I went to bed at 10am last night and got up at 6am so not a bad sleep at all. It is more beneificial to be moving for your health.

For me by the second week, I was more tired than usual but I was able to go out shopping and drive the kids to school etc. I took naps 2-3 times per day and felt like most of my days were dictated by making sure I ate, took all the vitamins, drank enough and got in my walking.

I think that if you are feeling like you can handle the travel then you should go. It is always easier to recover in a place of peace. Since I have no idea how far away your shore house is from where you are now, just make sure that if you have to be in the car for more than about 30-45 min that you stop and get out and walk. Don't want to have any circulation complications from the traveling.

Enjoy your recovery at the beach!

I was really mopey and not much fun to be around. All I could really manage to do was walk up the street 3x's a day and the rest of the time I was really kind of sleepy. I would wait to see how you feel...if you are up to it go for it but if not don't push it.

Just listen to your body and don't push it except to rest sip walk and repeat after your surgery. You should be okay going, but know that you may need to bow out to go rest.

As long as you have access to all the nutritonal things you need, you can be anywhere. I went shopping the day I came home from the hospital. I needed to rest in the morning and afternoon. You want to be as active as possible and not be in bed all the time to avoid clots and let your lungs rexpand. Best of luck.

The other said it very well. Do what feels right and make sure you pack the stuff you need with you.

I had open surgery and was up and walking the day of surgery. The worst thing you can do is lay in bed. You can't do super busy things, you will need rest, but that doesn't mean bed rest.

You must be out of surgery as I write this. Hope to hear from you soon with an update!
