6+ month post-op!
Well, yesterday I went to my doctor for my 6 month post op. I am down 62 pounds and I feel great! I was telling him I wish I had lost more weight in the 6 months and he said I had done just what I should have, (I think he said 52% of excess weight). He told me that the first 6 months is the rapid weight loss and my weight loss would slow down. QUESTION???? For those of you who are 6-12 months post op, how much weight should I expect to loose from 6-12 months? To be honest, I was kinda freaking out with him because all along I claim to be a slow looser anyway. How much slower will my weight loss become? I would like to continue to loose at a steady pace, 1-2 pounds a week.
The good news is that I did join a fitness club a couple of weeks ago and that has made a big differance in my weight loss. I seem to hit these 3 week platues, and working out helps.
Now on to complaining about problem number 2.....I had set my personal goal to loose 100 pounds which would take me to 142 pounds. When I was talking to him yesterday and I asked him what he would like to see me at he said 125! I am stressed out about that! I dont really know why, but I am totally stress out about that number. I have always been fat, I feel great now at 180, although I dont want my journey to end here. I am short ~ 5 3. I want to be healthy and not sickly. Will my body know when to stop loosing weight? I feel overwhelmed about loosing another 55 pounds to meet the doctors goal. I do not want to be a failure if I do not make it to 125. I need some good advice here. Am I way to concerned about the numbers? Help!

Firstly congrats on such terrific weight loss - I don't think you are a slow loser at all. Remember, everyones bodies react differently but we all end up at the same place in the end - where our bodies want us to be. I truly believe that your body will get to the point where it should be weight-wise and stop.
Your main concern should be your health and how good you feel - not the numbers - yes they are indicator as to your success but they are not everything. Relish how much more you are enjoying life not what the scales say.
I can't really say about weight loss for 6-12 months as I'm only 8 months out but I still seem to lose 2lbs a week consistently - but it is much harder work now than it was at the start. I go swimming every morning and do my workout at the gym every night (I have the weekends off) and this gets me my 2lb a week. I do think that if I didn't exercise I wouldn't be losing as much.
Good luck on your journey - you are doing brilliantly.

Continued weight loss
I'm almost 5 years out. I was down to 134 from 268, at about 1 year. I have bounced back and forth up to 145? I think then down to 124 last April. I left my journal at work so I can't look it up. I still enter into it every now and then and check measurements to make sure I'm still on track. I think you will continue to lose a little here and there over the course of two years. But that's just my opinion. Good luck and congratulations on your loss thus far!

Lisa your tool will continue to work as long as you work it. When I finished out my honeymoon phase I was still dropping anywhere from 1-2 pounds a week. I know your surgeon has good intentions for you but that is your body and nobody knows it better then you. When you reach a weight that you are comfortable at then you will know what is right for you. Big congrats on the -62 pounds gone forever.

Relax, no stress needed
A: Just because he said it doesn't mean you have to do it. Your body will know when to stop.
B: If you don't make it to 125, THIS DOES NOT MEAN YOU'VE FAILED. That's part of the pressure and panic you're feeling. You don't have to look at it that way.
C: What he's trying to do is get you down to the top of the ideal weight range for women 5'3" tall. Don't forget that, unless you have plastic surgery, you will be carrying anywhere between 6 and 10 pounds of extra skin, too.
All this is just my opinion--I was happy with 150 pound goal, and am 13 below it and still losing a pound every once in a while. I figure it gives me a little extra room, since most people gain back a few pounds before it's all over with.
Finally, and foremost... why sweat it until you're a lot closer?

In regards to the first concern, what I can tell you is that I consistently lost 1-3 pounds a week until I was about 10 months post-op. It has really slowed down now but I am still losing, just not every week.
The second concern, well listen to the ladies before me. I think you need to listen to your body and find where you feel the best. My surgeon and pcp won't even give me a goal! Their goal is that I am healthy which I now am even at the weight I am now. They are both thrilled! Both basicly told me not to be looking at the numbers...that I should see where my body wants to go. I picked a goal of 150. I'm almost wondering if that is realistic for me. My body seems to want to hang out between 165-170. I do have a lot of excess skin..about 15 pounds worth. I figure that after plastic surgery I may be around that 150. But if I'm not, I'm ok with that....you see...I am healthy and ultimately that IS my goal!

My Deal~
I lost nothing from months 5+ -around 1 year mark , then I lost another 30 and not changing anything. So never be discouraged.
My Dr thought I would look best around 150 but never really gave me a "Goal"
I sit around 127-130 and have for over a year now...maintaining..so 150,no,my body likes the 130 range. So don't worry about "goals"...I agree with others when they say...Our bodies will stop where IT wants too.
Stress no more! You are doing awesome.
