Ok 3 days home after surgery i couldnt wait to eat as we all remember ...now being almost 3 weeks out i cant eat very well at all..the thought of food makes me sick!! well 80% of the time!! so i went back to broths today and went down fine..ramon noodles but gave my son the noodles and i took the broth..i just think it is so weird now! I really use to LOVE food!! Also yesterday i went to gnc for the protien vials they didnt have those but did have the liquid form 3tbl is 18grm and let me say that made me run to sink but i held it down no use to get it down and go through that again anyway...i want to eat but scared now and confused!! Liquids i am getting about 35-45 oz a day then my broths and taking a multi-vitamin and iron pill and a b-12 daily and morning i do the s.f b.c. ....btw i did try chicken spread a few hours later i didnt feel so good...so dont know if it was the chicken or what figured it would have made me sick right after but it didnt just 4 hours later didnt feel good? Any thoughts to this!!

Very normal reactions to food. I had them for months and months. I read some very positive things in your post. You are getting in your fluids, trying to get in protein and your vitamins. All VERY GOOD. Plan for your 3 meals, don't fret over them if you can't get them in. There are times that I didn't want a thing, let alone smell anything...Ugghh. But, it does get much better with time. Do what you can...key things are the fluids, vitamins and if you can get in any food, make sure its protein. So important right now to keep on top of it. I lived off cream soup, popsicles, jello and liquids for some time.

I'm sorry youre not doing well with foods yet, but this might be a good thing! Take it slow and easy and follow the rules. You did right by going back to Stage 1...that's what my dr told me to do too. I hope it improves for you. Becareful with chicken spread cause that sounds like something that can "ball" up and get stuck easy. My dr told me to start with the rotisseri chickens at the supermarket, don't eat the skin and chew chew chew and so far so good. I then moved to grilled salmon on my george foreman and that was the best...light and full of protein. The cottage cheese goes down good too.

Laura you are still fresh out. Give your self sometime. Try and stick with the liquids and the soft foods. Did you try ordering the protein vials online? They have them on vitaminshoppe.com. Take it easy, give your self sometime to heal.

I cant relate.... YET. BUT... my initial thoughts.. Remember how excited you were pre-op? recapture that feeling, because the more you stress, the harder it is on your body ... period, GBS or not. AND.. stress may cause you to not eat causing you to stress more..

I would say.. enjoy it while it lasts.. because a year from now, you are going to WISH you still couldnt eat the things you do. Its ok not to eat every single meal that early out. Do the best you can, and fluids and protein are more important right now. so you have the right focus

I can relate to how you are feeling. I didn't want to eat (still don't sometimes) Cottage Cheese was really good for me. It was very smooth going down. I also ate SF/FF pudding. You are doing great in your liquid intake and that is wonderful! It takes time... I am at 2 months out and I still need more time to get it all figured out! you are not alone! HUGS

All very normal reactions to food. You have to remember your new pouch is still healing and is still swollen. You did the right thing backing off to liquids. Do that for awhile and then try the food again. I went through the same thing when I started taking in more solid food and ended up back on yogurt, sf inst. breakfast and creamed soups for weeks before I could go back to more dense food. Try adding in powdered milk to your IB along with the low fat milk. That will give you 9 more grams of protein for a total of 22 grams. You can do the same with creamed soups. I made them with milk instead of the water it calls for on the label, plus added in dry milk. I lived off Campbells pea soup with ham for months. It was the only thing that tasted good. Another big one was the Blue Bunny Carb Freedom yogurt. It has the highest protein intake and is sugar free. Another new yogurt I've discovered is Fage 0%. It has 13 grams of protein in one serving. It tastes like sour cream but if you add in some crystal light and Splenda to taste it is to die for! Very creamy and goes down well. It's a bit high priced ($1.79 in MI) and hard to find but if you do find it, it is worth the money.

Only other thing I would like to draw to your attention is the possiblity of a stricture. You are getting to the prime stricture time. That is something you want to be aware of. If you continue to have problems or if you find it is even hard to keep liquids down, call your doctor. I stricture isn't something to ignore.

Keep taking care of yourself. It isn't easy. At your stage eating is often a chore...just a job you have to do. It will get better but it takes time.

Are the protein vials everyone is talking about 2.99? That seems expensive for one little drink.

Hey.. hang in there.. it's been 7 months for me and I still go through periods where I just dont feel hungry.

Fluids are the most important along with protein so if you get nothing else that day... get those two. Dehydration is a royal pain both literally and figuratively....

S/F Popsicles always seems to help me get my pouch moving.
