My post-op journey begins....
I've been home for 15 hours now. It's so wonderful to be home. My only discomfort is the diarrhea I have each time I pee. Usually about every 2 hours. It's hard to tell if I'm peeing out my urethra or out my arse I had gained 5lbs of water weight. I have lost 6 lbs just since I've been home. I'm a bit bloated still and have quite a bit of gassy rumbling. Much better than my hubby who had to deal with constipation for a week. He is quite surprised about how well I'm doing, it took him a week to fart!
The only 2 things I found completely unnerving is the post anethesia nausea and the slight nerve compression from the hyperextension of my neck due to the endotracheal tube and left arm where the IV was. Anzemet was the miracle drug that helped the agonizing nausea within minutes. The neck and hand numbness took time to work itself out. I'm left handed, so it drove me crazy to have the pins and needles feeling for 2 days in my fingers.
All is well and I'm so excited to finally be on the other side.

Welcome to the other side, Marie
Welcome to the other side Marie!!
So happy to have you join us over here where life is great! What you said about the left arm and hand reminds me to tell other lefties (I'm one of you) to tell the docs you are left handed. It is assumed that everyone is right handed and they put the IV in the left hand automatically. They can put it on the right hand, I believe, unless it has something to do with where the anesthesiologist stands or something. Anyone know?
Anyhow, welcome. And always remember, everyone newly post op, everyday is better than the day before as you recover from the surgery. Before you know it, this will all be a distant memory and you will be a true loser as the weight just falls off!

Welcome To The Adventure Marie. I Had Surgery In Sept 2003. Open Rny. Started At 280 And Now 183. I Am Well Healed And Doing Well Now. I Had A Lot Of Diarrhea For While After Surgery And Put On Water Weight Post Op As Well. Lost It After I Could Go Back On Lasix. Now I Am Off Lasix Completely As Well As Many Of My Other Meds. Each Day Does Get Better. Mynew Body Never Ceases To Amaze Me And Feels New Still As I Get Used To Being Able To Move And Live Life So Much Easier. I Am Excited For You.

The days do pass so slowly....
I feel great one moment and oogy/tired the next. I sigh a lot and am writing in my journal to help pass the hours. I am so looking forward to full liquids in another day or two. I have no hunger and looking back over the past week, it's amazing how little I've eaten. I ate more in one meal the day before surgery than the past 4 days since the procedure. I'm taking in only 200-300 calories each day. My husband has been so wonderful. It really helps having someone live with you who went through the same experience. I had no fears before and no regrets now. I have the best coach to prepare me.

Day 4 post-op
Finally the diarrhea stopped. I'm rather weak and tired. Taking short naps throughout the day. I did have a burst of energy to do some light shopping with my husband. I've started sneezing, so that REALLY hurts everything. Had a call from Dr. Pott's office. I can now eat full liquids. Oh my, the first thing I had was 2 ozs of yogurt. That tasted good. I tossed out all of the jello I had made. I'll probaly never eat jello again I had bought some low carb ice cream that only has 3 grams of sugar per 1/4 cup and had 4 spoonfuls. Mmmmmmm, good. I drank half a protein shake. It's amazing, I got full very quickly and I was satisfied with the amounts I had. I can't believe I use to be able to sit and eat a half gallon of full leaded ice cream all at once. This first week is a bitch, with many ups and downs. Each day does get a little better. I hang on to the fact that there is a end to this misery.

Day 5 post op
Yeah! I was finally able to get some sleep in my real bed, not just propped up on the couch. I feel much better today. Most of the pain is gone as long as I don't move wrong. My insides feel like they're beginning to move back into their proper place. Still a lot of gas. Belching all day long. Better than farting, as that can get messy I'm walking further and my back doesn't hurt as much. I really try to concentrate on good posture so the rest of my body doesn't get fatigued. I think I'm over the hump of the worst part. So, hip, hip, hooray.

Marie...congrats and welcome to the other side, truly Heaven on earth. You sound like you are doing wonderful, and everyone is right and try to remember it...each day does get better. I was feeling great right away also, but now I feel fabulous. In looking back, I didn't feel bad, but what a difference a few weeks makes. You won't believe it. Welcome aboard the journey of life. I hope you will come to the meeting on the 16th..we had great fun last time.
Karen, what is it w/the 4 weights ????? Start/current/goal...shouldn't there be 3 or am I the goof??? Let me know skinny. I think you've dropped more weight then me and I'm 3 months out....ahhh the advantages of youth!!! Talk to you girlies soon. Take care.....
