Sorta odd Q about plastics...
Why are so many people having plastics done like a year out from surgery?
My surgeon requires all his patients to wait at least a 1.5 to 2 years before he will approve anyone to see a plastic surgeon.
What did your personal surgeon say about plastics? I'm kinda interested to know. I know I want them done around this time next year...If I ever make it goal

My surgeon recommends 12-18 months, at least a 100 pound weight loss and a BMI under 30. I know he prefers the 18 months verses the 12 months. I'm almost 15 months post-op now and have my first consultation with a plastic surgeon tomorrow. I am not at my goal but my bariatric surgeon feels I have about 15 pounds of loose skin, so after plastic surgery I should be near my goal. I am still losing a bit but it is slow and seems to be stablizing. I was refereed to the plastic surgeon by my pcp primarily since I am having increased lower back pain, increased knee pain plus increased neck and upper back pain. My pcp feels it is all connected to my fairly impressive pannus that hangs low and heavy along with the increasingly hanging breasts, that are still a DD in size. I didn't need a referral from my Bariatric surgeon to see the plastic surgeon. I am looking at waiting on any plastic surgery until I am closer to 18 months out but wanted to get the ball rolling in the right direction. Plus I'm hoping that some of this will be covered by my insurance company and approvals always take awhile.

My GBS surgeon requires patients to wait at least one year and my plastic surgeon required that my weight be at goal for 8 weeks prior to surgery. If I had more weight to lose, I wouldn't have gone for PS yet, but I reached goal at 11 months and really shouldn't lose anymore weight according to both doctors. I could certainly wait to spend the money , but I don't think my body will change much if I waited for a year. And MAN, I need to lose this skin!!!!

I reached goal at a year, lost more by 13 months and stopped losing. I had it at 15 months and my plastic surgeon was fine with that. I think when the loss finishes a switch goes on that says it is time and you want it done yesterday.

My doc wants 12+months, 100 pound loss or more, stabilized weight and then skin hanging criteria. I met all of these, so he booked me in for surgery.

I waited over 2 years, but that's because I chose to wait that long. I'm glad I did also!

I am 5 months out and thinking about it. I guess it is always in the back of our minds and I will wait for atleast a year. I guess I should ask my GBS doctor about this. Our support group is having a plastic surgeon talk to us in May, can't wait.

Chris~
Chris!Hang tight with the PS...WE are close to starting weight and height...I lost 90% of my weight before six months and than nothing for the next six...then out of nowhere...boom another 30+ lbs...
I am two years out and am just now feeling that my body has slowed with the changes...yet I have been at this weight for almost a year now.My Surgeon sugguest PS only after 18 months.(My choice not to have any PS has to do with the $ and I refuse to finance anything ....yet )
Ask the PS at your support group lots of questions. It is exciting!
Best wishes to everyone getting consults and PS...Very happy for all of you!

I had my consult at 9 months out because it takes 3-6 months to one scheuled. Had my PS done at 14 months....don't regret not waiting. I had a goal to be be healed and done by my Nov birthday of that year.
