I had mine at 15 months because I had hernias.

I was not at my goal weight, and I think it would have been nice to be thinner at that time, but he did a fantastic job. I stopped losing after the PS. I am really happy and have maintained the weight loss with in 5 or 10 pounds. On the up side right now because I have not excersized due to anemia exhaustion, I better get moving.

I say wait as long as you can 18- 24 months in realistic and wise.

My PCP told me that it takes 2 years for the skin to catch up with the weight loss. I didn't necessarily believe her, but recently, I've noted that my skin has been toning up a bit.

Around here, it takes a good 6 months just to get a consult and so forth, then you have to wait who knows how long to get a date. For me, I am starting the process early, so that I can be sure of my choices and save up the $$. Realistically, surgery won't happen until NEXT summer! (that would be at the 2 year mark...) It's all in how things work for you. Not everyone is the same and different Drs. require different things. Mine says 16-18 months at the earliest...

Ask the PS at your support group lots of questions. It is exciting!

Best wishes to everyone getting consults and PS...Very happy for all of you!

Thanks V! Yeah, I am thinking that my weight loss will slow down too so my body can adjust. I just want the tatas to be where they should and the panni to be gone. I am exercising to help it along. Hopefully my skin has some bounce back and will not be hanging too much! I know from others at work who have lost weight that exercising is the key because she never exercised and she has wings...poor thing. I guess we are all different though and have different figures etc. I will ask tons of questions at support group, I am excited about it.

My skin hasn't changed in the past two years....I didn't have arms done, so i was able to track the results of time on skin sag. I don't recall my WLS surgeon having a specific time frame. The PS said I just needed to be at a stable weight for at least 3-4 months before going under.

Hi there, I was wondering how does someone get their insurance to pay for it?? I had a tummy tuck before Gastric so I had alot gone already so I don't have much hanging except in arms, thighs, breasta and somewhere private which i hate. A PT I saw (I have chronic pain possibly due to the surgery and neuropathy NOT due to vitamin deficiencies) said my breasts are causing a lot of problems with my neck as they hang down "meatless" shall I say!!! lol and that it should be covered by insurance to reduce my pain level in my neck.
Any ideas ?? I am in USA California on an HMO Cigna and currently in pain management. Who has to write up the need?? A plastic surgeon or who??

Thanks and how did you do it??

For me I had lost almost 170lbs and carried alot of excess in my panis that had stretched my skin about 3 inches above my knee, I was also very desperate to have my hip replaced and get off the pain meds and be able to move more freely. So at 7 months I had abdominoplasty that removed an amazing 40 lbs., since then I have lost an additional 50 lbs and have had my hip replaced, I am 2 lbs from my goal weight and cant see myself going backwards. This new life is the best gift I have ever received and would not change all that I have gone through to get here.

Good question and I see you are receiving good response.
All the best too you.
