Default First thing you remember after Surgery

May seem like a weird question, but what is the first thing you remember after being operated on? I remember waking up in the post-op room with a big oxygen mask on my face. It seemed to be blowing white air out, was very weird. I didnt move at all was just in a trance until I fell asleep. The next thing I remember I was waking up in the ICU. (all WLS patients in my hospital went to ICU, our surgeon arranged for that)

In my original surgery, I don't remember anything until I woke up in ICU and my family was all there saying the surgery went great. 2 days later when they had to go back in b/c of a complication, I remember waking up in the recovery room with a tube down my throat and feeling panicked and trying to rip it out and the nurses telling me to calm down and just relax and they'd take it out soon. I definately prefer the first memory to the second!

I looked up at the nurse and my Dad and BF and asked if I was thin yet!

Question

I went to ICU ...so they say...but I don't have any memory of anything untill I got to my private room the following day.

Good question...I guess I was just so drugged up.I truly can not remember anything...the first 48 hours were a blurrrrr.

The first thing I remember is the nurses in the recovery room yelling at me to lay down. I have no idea why I was trying to get up but apparently I was. I don't remember seeing the recovery room at all but I do remember them talking to me and asking questions about my pain level and if I was nauseated. After they gave me meds for both I was out until I was brought to my room in the Bariatric Unit.

Interesting question, Kevin. Thanks for asking it! I'm looking forward to the responses from others.

For me, I don't recall the recovery room at all. I remember waking up in my private room with my husband and friends there. I had oxygen on and remember trying to take it off, but them telling me to keep it on. I was pretty drugged up the first few hours. I was afraid to feel pain, so I made sure I pressed the morphine button. I vaguely remember them telling me my sugar levels were extremely high and that they had to give me insulin twice, but that seems more like a dream than a reality.

I remember the nurse yelling at me to wake up...and she kept yelling at me cuz I wouldn't stay awake. I have a hard time coming out of anesthesia.

I remember opening my eyes and looking around in recovery and thinking "I'm alive . .. Ok, I'm alive" An hour later when I got to my room I was totally coherent. I had a PCA and was not drugged like my pod mate who had an epidural . . . she was OUT OF IT for about 10 hours after surgery . . . I was ready to walk the halls in about 3 hours . . .

Default Take this catheter out!

That's genuinely the first thing I remember - the nurse came in my room about 10 pm, and said something to the effect of being up and walking before I'd be allowed to go home. I told her to take the catheter out so I could (I was too heavy to walk with a catheter--felt like I was yanking my bladder out by the roots with every step). So she did, I started walking, and walked pretty much every hour or so all night long, increasing my distance and time each time. They did my leak test in the morning, and I went home an hour later.

Did I say how much I hate being in the hospital?
