Default antibiotics and dumping?

I had my one week check at the surgeon yesterday. He said I was doing good except was slightly dehydrated, and not getting enough protien, but he said it's hard for everyone this early out.. I also have an infection in one of my incisions. He put me on an antibiotic but it makes me dump. It says take with or without food, last night I took it without and I had bad stomach cramps and then very voluminous liquid stool. This a.m I took it with 1/2 C of instant breakfast ... same thing. UGH. I just took it again with some yogurt. I hope that works. This day is very tiring!

I have a slight fever, and am really trying hard to get more fluids in but,it is so HARD to drink. I sip, sip, all day but my stomach gets so bloated and miserable. He said it was due to the amount of staples in my esophagus from the hernia repair, and it will get better.

I just wanted to share to see if anyone had any suggestions for me, thanks for listening.

Kepping my chin up,

Deb

I don't have any words of wisdom for you, but I'm right there with you. I have an infection in my drain site and am on antibiotics and am experiencing the same things as you. Hopefully it will pass for both of us soon!

Usually the liquid antibiotics are made with sugar substitutes or sugar alcohols and in the quantity for a dose wouldn't make you dump. You may be having antibiotic associated diarrhea. That first week or two after surgery I had weird green loose stools just because of the plumbing being new. Dumping is more of fatigue, palpitations, all the way to nausea and abdominal complaints. Feel better

Thanks to everyone for the support.

Dyann, it is actually a capsule the surgeon gave me. I asked if I needed liquid and he said no. I do not have the fatigue, just the cramping and bad diarrea, maybe it isn't dumping. It sure hurts though. It was actually some better last night when I took it with a bite of mashed potatoes.

Thanks,
