Goodness girl, you gotta remember you JUST had surgery, you are still healing from all that cutting. You need to stop thinking of food and think liquids, water, protein shakes, broth, SF popsicles, cream/pureed soups. (I also am amazed you were not given these guidelines PRIOR to your surgery )Very small amounts. Give yourself time, you will get to eat, but PLEASE, let your pouch heal. Use the guidelines above, that is what you should be doing. I wish you the best.

I know that everyone is different and so are every doctor's guidelines. My doc and nutrionist allowed me to have pureed foods 3-5 days after surgery. So I had beans(mashed up) at about 10-15 days post op. Chilli is usually the food that I can always eat when my stomach says no to everything else.

There is NO WAY that I'm getting in that many calories per day -- I'm lucky to average half that amount. Should I really be eating 1400 calories a day, 7 servings of meat, etc. as they suggest, at my stage?? My weight loss has slowed to a couple of pounds a week and now I'm starting to wonder if it's because I'm not eating enough. I've been having trouble getting my protein in every day because I still can't tolerate a lot of good LF protein sources (like chicken, for example...comes back up immediately), and cheese either gives me diarrhea or makes me vomit, so most of my protein is coming from IDS New-Whey 42 gram protein drinks. The majority of what I eat these days is carb or milk-based (yogurt, instant breakfast, crackers, soups, etc.) because I get nauseous on almost everything else, especially stuff with protein. Is it OK to get most of my protein from the New-Whey drinks? I really hope this gets better...eating for me has become a chore that I have to force myself into.

Have you had labs drawn yet since your surgery? What does your blood work say? There's a test they can run to see if you're getting in enough protein-- I think it's called "pre-albumen" or something similar. If that's OK, then you're getting enough protein.

Well, I've had several follow-up appointments with my surgeon's nurse practitioner and she's never said anything about lab work. When should they be doing blood work? I saw my endocrinologist on Monday (I'm diabetic) and asked her if she would have the lab test me for anemia at least. She had them do a full panel and we should have the results back in a few days, so I should know more by next week. I've been feeling really tired lately and have very little energy, which concerns me because my nurse practitioner has made a point several times of saying that people's energy level usually goes up after 6 weeks post-op. I haven't had that experience yet. I'm using all my energy just going to work every day, and in the evening I'm just dead tired. Of course, everyone is different, so this could be because I'm still recovering, but I had hoped I'd be feeling better by 2 months out. One thing that's been bothering me is I've noticed that I'm getting flabby -- I'm fat, absolutely, but I've always been solid, and the jiggle has definitely gotten worse, most surprisingly on my forearms. I don't know if that's from just having lost 50+ pounds in a few months, or because I'm losing lean muscle mass due to a protein deficiency, or what. According to my NP, I can't start any strenuous exercise (weight training, etc.) until 3 months post-op, and that's too bad because working out usually picks up my energy level. I can't figure out if all this is normal, or if it's just normal for me.

My first blood work was drawn at 3 months. I believe I am supposed to have blood work done every 6 months for the forseeable future... or maybe it's every 6 months at first and then annually... not sure; I'll have to check my paperwork.
In any case, you can probably request blood work now if you are still not feeling well (sounds like your endocrinologist already requested this?). Make sure they do a full panel, checking things like blood sugar, vitamin & mineral levels, protein (that "pre-albumen" thing), cholesterol, etc., etc. When they took mine, they drew at least 5 or 6 vials of blood for all of it!
As for the flabbiness... Sorry to be the one to break it to you, but you're probably going to look flabbier and flabbier as this progresses. It's an unfortunate side-effect of rapid weight loss... it's not as bad for some as it is for others, but for the vast majority, flabbiness is going to be an issue in at least SOME areas of their body. I'm also noticing it in my arms, too-- I had lost 80 pounds a few years ago (and gotten to a lower weight than I am right now), and my "bat wings" were nowhere near as bad then as they are now.
My understanding is that the skin will rebound to a degree, but that depends on each individual person, skin type, age, highest weight, etc., etc.
As for exercise, not sure why your doc is making you wait 3 months for anything strenuous... I had lap, and I had no restrictions after about 4-6 weeks. But even if you can't go back to weight training just yet, I'm sure there's no reason why you can't resume light cardio, like walking, swimming (as long as your incisions have healed), or using an elliptical machine. I'm sure your doc doesn't want you sitting around being a couch potato right now!!
