Food Memories
Ok, I was just wondering if anyone else has ideal food memories . . . I'm over a year out and at goal, so I ordered my favorite thin crust pizza on Monday. Super thin crunchy crust, feta cheese, grilled chicken and red pepper. This was one of my favorite things in the whole world pre-op and I waited over a year to have a slice. And well, the memory of the was much more enjoyable than the actual slice I ate. I didn't get sick and it was a great slice . . . but nothing special. It's just hard for me to comprehend that I thought I "missed" chicken pizza so much, then when I had it . .. eh, no big deal.

It reminds me of passive flirting ,daydreaming about the act and then BAM!!!!...the sex is never as good as I had imagined....the mind is sooooo powerful.
I agree...The "memory" is just that and at two years out it feels distant at times.
I felt the same way about Pizza...I wonder why that is?
I still miss food....do you?

I miss the dining experience with my husband, when I could order an appetizer, entree and dessert then linger. I'm not as much fun as I used to be. I don't drink and eat . . . I used to really enjoy wine with a meal. But, that said, don't miss the weight!! Now, I get to look darn cute while my husband eats.

I miss that too! We could go to a nice restaurant and stay for AWHILE...now I get bored easily at restaurants and want to get in and get out.

the tables are going to be turned on my wife. When we go out, she tends to steal from my plate!
After my surgery, I'm not even going to order, I'll just steal from her's!
Jeez, I just realized how this is going to save us money going out!

Memories
You know...I believe that our "fabulous" memories are just "fabulous" because of the way they made us feel (emotionally) at that moment. I don't know about you...but I was an emotional eater...I would eat for comfort...so whatever I decided to eat for comfort was always "fabulous". I guess now that we have learned or are in the process of learning to eat for nutritional value rather than emotional value, it kinda knocks down our memories of these fabulous foods!

Pizza was my ultimate food, until surgery. I have had it a few times since surgery, but it didn't do much for me either. I was kinda sad about it, but then give my head a shake..........If I wanted to eat the whole flippin pizza then why have the surgery. I made the right choice.
Do I morn the loss of the food, at times. I just try to shift the thought to nutritional value and the "I have to eat" vs. eat to create pleasure. It still NOT all the way there, I do have to think about it more and more as I feel more normal than I have since surgery. I live a normal life, why not eat normal....in fact, I do eat pretty normal compared to some, so I have to keep it in check!

I don't really miss the food because I eat it if I want it, but follow the pouch rules (for the most part): no eating and drinking, protein first, and I just nibble...everything in moderation as long as you can tolerate it

WLS definitely helps the "dining out" budget!
Usually when hubby and I go out, my "meal" is either an appetizer (if it's something relatively healthy, like a skewer of shrimp or something), or I have part of hubby's meal. Occasionally I'll order a whole meal, but only if it's something that I know will reheat well (certainly NOT everything does!!)...
As for the original topic-- pre-op, pasta used to me a MAJOR staple of my diet (you know, being Italian and all)-- at least once a week, a dinner would consist of ONLY spaghetti tossed with garlic and olive oil. We called it "Italian Penicillin" because it was such comfort food. I still make pasta from time to time now (albeit the high-protein variety), but it's not NEARLY as enjoyable as it used to be-- I'm finding myself preferring the protein/meat portion of the meal rather than the pasta.
