You are just over 2 weeks out and what your feeling is normal. What I did for fluids is sugar free popsicles and Propel water. I was able to tolerate the MetRX protein drinks in chocolate. I do hope things start getting better for you. I do believe the first 6 weeks is the hardest but I promise you it gets better. As you introduce more and more into your diet the protein is easier to get in. Good luck to you.

Hi Rachel! Can you stand another helpful hint? I agree, protein supplements are something sent to us from the Dark Side (hearing ominous music as the Death Star comes into view). I find the Atkins chocolate shakes in a can tolerable, but only if they are as COLD as I can get them! Diluting them with ice helps a bit too. Pour a bit onto ice, return the can to the fridge, repeat. Oh- the chocolate is better. Another idea? Pull out the blender and make a sf milkshake, add some powdered milk to the milk already in there. I use a scoop of sf ice cream, and add a scoop of vanilla protein powder. Whatever works, girlfriend! Hang in there! I'm just 2 months out myself- it does get better! Come here when you need a boost OR a kick in the patootie!

All good advice
Just sending you as many good vibes as I can, dear. I have NEVER once been able to get a significant amount of protein from protein drinks... but I was on solids by four weeks out and able to start getting my protein from dairy by that point... I do agree with what's been said, that one of the reasons you feel like you do is because you're not taking your supplements and meds. If you don't have nausea medication, request some, so you can get food down. The only nausea med that ever helped me was dr.-prescribed Zofran--none of the others cut it. You can get it in a meltaway that you don't even have to swallow, melts on your tongue. They give it to the people with the worst nausea in the world--cancer patients on chemo or radiation. If you can get the nausea under control, the rest will fall into place... I feel for you.
Edit: I need to add this. We cannot make this physically better for you--only you can, by insisting that you get help with the nausea that is keeping you from getting your food and medications so you can get healthy. This is NOT all in your head, and a psychologist appointment two weeks from now isn't going to keep your iron, protein, and other vitamin levels where they need to be. Please talk to your doc ASAP.

Oh My
Sorry to hear you're having such a hard time dear. I really don't know what to say as I didn't have this problem but you've got to force yourself to get the protein in like they said. HUGGS PLEASE BE BETTER!

I'm also so sorry to hear that you are having these problems. My Doctor had to give me Promethazine due to my nausea when trying to eat. I simply refused to eat anything. The pills did help me somewhat and maybe they would work for you - so when you see your Doctor you may wish to ask.
Best wishes for you -
Ron

I am very sorry it is hard for you. I know everyone has said it will get better, and it will. I know it sucks, I think I have had it very easy. My first 2 weeks after surgery were rather easy compared to most. I didn't have any options, I was on clear liquids only. I was not even supposed to try anything protien stuff. I did try and get some propel down to get some vitamins and protien and stuff. It didn't work 'Fred' would not tolerate anything.
I also don't have any magical phrase that will get you through this, except to remember that we are here for you, and we will be here for you!

Just trying to be realistic yet optimistic
I'm sending you tons of healing energy and legions of souls to help you through this time of change. Know that you are loved, worried about, and integral to the exotic flavor or TT. It could end up taking 2 weeks, or if it contines unchecked bacteria stuff, it could take 2 months.
Hopefully it's just a flesh wound and will improve once you are under care, with no complications whatsoever. Whatever it turns out to be, I'm pulling for you Sweetheart! TAKE GOOD CARE OF YOU!!

So sorry to hear you are having such a hard time. I remember the roller coaster....the elation of having survived the surgery and feeling so good that first week, then the sadness I felt when I developed the obstruction a week out, I layed there in the hospital for 7 days on only IV fluids, pain meds, and vomiting my own grossness! I then had to have a 2nd surgery, was feeling great that was behind me, but then developed the pneumonia 1 week after that 2nd surgery. I had no breath sounds in my left lung by the time I got back to the ER! Trust me....being admitted to the hospital 3 times in 4 weeks was a bit much for me to handle! Not to mention the home oxygen I was tethered to for another month and a half after that! I was off work 2 months and 2 weeks total...for a surgery I planned on being out a week for! I recall being pretty sad at times. I did go see the doctor when I started crying all the time. I take Paxil 10mg in the morning and .5 xanax at night....it's working great! I must say that after all that, I feel great today. Better than ever! I remember having major regret when all that crap was going on, but things have turned around for me, and I pray they will for you as well. Take care of yourself and try to find something that works for you...protein wise...chili, cheese, popsicles for hydration, whatever you need to do to make it work for you. It's very hard in the beginning...I remember it being no party. You are in the right place. This forum is the best. You will find lots of great tips and advice and loving, caring people here. Have a good day!
