Severe headaches...HELP!
Hi everyone. I need some help with what I can take for headaches. For the past two weeks I have been getting the worst, most unbareable headaches I have ever had. Any suggestions on what to take, or why I am getting them? Thanks!

dehydration comes to mind, not enough water chickie, that is usually the biggest reason we get headaches, as for what you can take, im not sure i dont take pain meds, someone will be around shortly i am sure to suggest something, now go sip some water

I asked my nurse this when I was getting chronic headaches that Tylenol just wasn't touching. She said liquid Advil (gel caps)...if only taken infrequently, it shouldn't be a problem. Just be sure it doesn't become a constant thing or you will need to see a specialist for headaches!!

I get migraines
I had them all my life. I can only take Tylenol based meds obviously because of the bypass.
Carrie has a good point...dehydration causes headaches. Try some SF popsicles to get well hydrated and take some Tylenol.
If and when mine get really bad, I end up in the ER...not fun.

Can we not take Motrin after GBS? I get an occasional migraine myself--maybe once a year--but if I pop 800mg of motrin immediately when I get the warning signs, I can function fine once the blind spots pass. Is everyone limited to Tylenol only, or is that what you personally can tolerate?

We are not supposed to take any NSAIDS because of the risk of ulcers. Motrin, Advil, and Aleve are all NSAIDS. Anything with ibuprophin is a no no. It really sucks for me because Tylenol doesn't touch a bad headache or cramps. I had extreme cramps to the point that I went to my PCP. She told me to take children's liquid Motrin. I wouldn't take it without calling my surgeon. When I called him, he said not to make a habit out of it and he had me double up on my Nexium while I was taking it. I've only HAD to take it that once, but if I did again I think I would just do the same thing. Hope ya find something that works!

I had to go to the doc for my headaches and they gave me imitrex it works wonders if I take right when I feel it commixing on. I use to take Excedrin before GB and my GB doc said not to take it anymore.... I get headaches around my cycle because of a hormone and if I don't have this imitrex I just cant shake it! Good luck I know this can be tough! Tylenol does nothing for me. Right after surgery I could take Tylenol PM and sleep off some of the headache but my head still felt sore and then it would come back. Have you tried Tylenol PM?

They say not to, but can be done on an occaisional basis with an acid blocker to protect the pouch. I take Protonix daily, but still don't risk taking any Ibuprofen or NSAIDS.

Thanks for the posts guys. I know it's not dehydration because I drink about six 16.9 ounze bottles a day, sometimes more. My only guess is allergies. In my area right now the pollen and allergens are up HUGE! I am seeing my surgeon on tuesday and I will ask him for something. Thanks again!
