one-week post op and ready to give up
I don't know how you guys do this, I just want to crawl under a rock somewhere. I thought I had done so much research in preparation, but nothing could have prepred me for this. I am not getting any protein-- it makes me gag, I can't tolerate the carafate medicine, and there is no way i can possibly take in all 60 ounces of water. I can't hardly make from the bed to the living room without collapsing, much less get any walking done. And this constant disgusting after taste in my mouth is downright disgusting.
I have always recovered so quickly form other surgeries, but this one seems to be kicking my butt.
I feel like such a wimp.

Rachel,
You are not a wimp!!! You had the guts to do the surgery.... I had many difficulties Post - op as well. You too will get through this.
Make sure you are communicating with your clinic.
Set a goal of 48 oz if you can't do sixty and work up..
As for protein I gagged as well. I am using the liquid protein 42 grams /3 ozs. I dilute it with 10 oz of water and have half in the am and half in the PM.
You will do this. Many of us struggle. One Day at a Time
Keep on talking to us we will Help......

the 1st week is known as HELL WEEK because it can be a bitch - just remember your bod is going thru some major changes so you will struggle at first, BUT each day should be a bit better - just keep moving, sippin, and taking in that protein - they all make you feel better and aid in the recovery
ps if pain is causing you problems dont forget to use those pain meds the doc prescribed that too will help you move

Hang in there. I think I got 25-40 ounces/day the first week or two. Little by little I got more. Protein forget....I didn't do supplements at all. My MD wanted us to focus on fluids the first two weeks more than the protein. Once you can start taking pureed food, then the focus shifts. As for energy, I was either on or off. Nothing in between. It will get easier day by day.

Yep. It's hell week. It will get better. Concentrate on fluids right now. Walk, sip, rest, repeat. YOU CAN DO IT!

In our program protein was not to be an issue until at least 3weeks out.....relax and just rest, don't push the fluids just sip....
God bless......

Rachel, no one said it was going to be easy. I thank you for sharing what you are going through. It is important for people who are just walking into to this, to know that there are different ways this surgery could turn out. Sometimes everything isn't so rosey. But it is always an adjustment the first couple of weeks. The body is going thorugh so many changes. It also doesn't help that your emotions are going to be a little out of whack as well. Hang in there Rachel. It does get better. My prayers are with you.

One day at a time...it gets easier-promise!
It's always hard at the beginning...you won't find anyone that will say it was easy. Congrats on being a new loser. Hang in there!
