Default Lab Bill from Hospital

I just received a bill for the lab tests done in the hospital. The lab did not bill my insurance. I have Aetna HMO through SCMG. Has anyone else on here (someone with an HMO) received a lab bill? Did you pay it? Or did you call them with your insurance information? I realize that the hospital lab might not be contracted with SCMG, which would be weird since the hospital is.

Thanks much,

Smile bill or not to bill

Call the billing department, Im sure its an oversight. As a member of a HMO you cannot be billed for services... at all. Let us know what happens!

Thumbs down Hospital Billing.. argh

I used to do billing for the hospital and it may be an oversight.. however, if your insurance does not contract with pomerado for lab services, you may be charged.. As an inpatient, though you should be covered 100%. Let us know what the billing department says. I didn't get charged, however I did get an itemized statement. Does it say it is a bill or does it say it is a statement or explaination of benefits? Good luck!!!

Post Billing Scare!!

I just recieved 2 bills, not statements. One from Pomerado Hospital for $33,500.00 and one from pathology for $350. So I called asap and found out Pomerado recently installed a new billing sytem and it generated bills in error.

Hope this helps

Default Aetna Hmo..

I had Aetna HMO for my surgery and did not receive any bills or statements. I'd call.

Default Pomerado and their new computer system...

They've probably made a big goof.

When I went back in a few days after my surgery to have pain in my leg checked out (at Dr. Callery's direction), the triage nurse in the E.R. was learning a new computer system, and had to be coached through it at every step of the way. She obviously missed putting in my Aetna HMO number, 'cuz I've been getting bills from the hospital, the lab, and one or two other places ever since. All have been referred to my HMO and my medical group, and so far no luck getting any satisfactory response from Aetna. The bills are starting to carry threats of collection agencies and damage to my credit rating. My E.R. visit was in early October... and no end in sight so far.

All this thanks to incompetence on the part of the triage nurse and her supervisors who let her start using the new computer system before she was adequately trained on it.

Their new system didn't carry over ANY information from the older system... and I'd just had my surgery less than two weeks earlier.

Argh.
