Default Bathing suit too big??

Wait a minute - I just took my measurements and ordered an LL Bean suit on line. Ordered a 16 - got it Saturday. I tried it on - it looks a lot better than I expected (it is called a swimming dress) which I chose because my waist is much smaller than my hips and I hoped it would be as flattering as possible, plus hide my horrendous inner thighs. So - all is good, but honestly - I should have gotten a 14. I can not believe it. Too late though - leaving for Disney World on Friday.

How could it be too big?? Are those size charts generous because people lie?? Do bathing suits run big or is it just because they are stretchy? Maybe it is because I am so darn short between my waist and shoulders..

Never had this problem before!

I just bought 2 new swimsuits this weekend, and I agree that the sizing on suits is just MESSED UP. In pants, I'm about a size 24 right now, and about a 26 in shirts... I had been shopping all day and didn't feel like trying the suits on, so I just grabbed two (a size 24 and a size 20, which I figured I'd shrink into) and brought them home, thinking I'd return one if it didn't fit.

Turns out the size 24 is a little big, and the size 20 fits perfectly. GO FIGURE.

I think it all boils down to how you're built... I'm rather short and very "hourglass"-y, and for some reason, I'm always a size smaller in swimsuits than in regular street clothes-- otherwise the top part of the suit is too big, or the whole thing is too long, etc., etc.

Gina, working in the area of aquatics, I TOTALLY understand the bathing suit thing. Every manufacturer is different and I swear a great deal of suits that say they will fit your size don't. I am bigger in the bust than I am in the lower half and its super hard to get a suit to fit. Best way is to take a day and try on many....its a pain, but spending that kind of money on a suit - I want it to fit the best it can.

They typically make suits to fit the bust area and then make proportions from there......its ok if your proportions are relatively equal...I don't know too many that are!

No big worries.....regardless if you suit is a 16 or a 14, you won't be in it for long.....
