Red face Here's some info

Hi Rain,
I have heard that vitamin E is good for incisions. Here's some info I got off the web for you:

You should have a bottle of 400 IU Vitamin E capsules. Medical studies have shown that the application of Vitamin E to wounds or incisions increases the healing rate and reduces the amount of scar tissue formation. Keep in mind that this is very dependent on you, as not all people respond the same to this treatment. To apply, wash your hands and puncture the capsule with a sterile needle or knife. Squeeze the contents onto your finger(s) and apply to the external incisions. Repeat the application after washing the area. Some lotions are advertised as containing vitamin E, but they contain very little actual vitamin E, and may contain ingredients you neither want nor need.

I also read that it can also cause rashes on other people, so you may want to test it on your arm. I would hate for you to get a reaction directly on your incision.

How is it healing by the way? Is it still sensitive? My husband had back surgery where they went through his back and through his stomach. His incision is pretty prominent and we didn't use vitamin E. He is in the process of getting all of his paperwork in for surgery. I'm afraid he'll end up having it open and will have a very long scar that will meet where the back surgery scar starts. As long as he becomes a healthier person, I don't care.

Anyway, I hope this information helps you. Others may have tried it that can give you their input.

Keep smiling!

Exclamation Not to be the bearer of bad news, but....

According to Kelly, vitamin E will erode the stiches and has on a couple of her patients. I guess just a few weeks ago, the stiches opened up on a patient that used vitamin E oil. She told me not to put anything on them at all!!!

So you don't feel bad, I was about to do the same thing. And I have a medical background. So who knew. Kelly did go on to tell me once the scar has scabed over and fell off, then you can use whatever.

Hope this helps.

Davey

Default Scar

I can remember being told not to put anything on the incision. I never did. My scar is hardly visible now after almost 3 years.

Ireala, Thank you for your information.

Davey, what do you mean scab over and fall off. I have a thin pink line where the incision is. No scab to fall off. Did I misunderstand you?

Woody, I think, like you, I will leave the healing to nature, thanks for sharing.
