Default i need help: all-night binge

Please. I feel terrible. I actually went back to the habit of night-eating binges.

I was super super stressed all night writing a 10-page paper. I cannot beleive that I have fallen back to the problem that once made me so obese.

I basically got only 2 hours of sleep last night while writing this stupid term paper that is due March 20th.

I stayed up all night eating and eating high calorie foods....i prolly went through 4-5 atkins advantage bars and a whole bag of 100-caLORIE popcorn.

I feel so stupid and angered at myself. I bascially consumed around 1000calories just last night while writing my paper. I NEED Support

Jevan,
Stress is a tough thing to deal with. Falling back into old habbits is even tougher! The good news is that it was only one night. You have done a fantastic job on loosing weight. I know you do not want to go where you once were. Maybe when you know you will be up all night, drink instead of eat. Get some snapple, or water and drink instead of eat. Another idea would maybe plan your time better and not wait until the paper is due to write it. Work on it durning the day and than you will not be put into the situation you were in last night. I feel for you, I do not deal with stress very well myself.
Again, you have done a fantastic job!!! We all hit bumps in the road, just don't let a bump turn into something more!
Good luck!

Its great that you recognized it. Now think back to pre-op and what would you have done then? Probably taken in 3000 calories on junk food. Now post-op you took in semi-good choices and well under 1000 calories. Just get back on track today.

The emotional sides of eating are not fixed with surgery and its something that we have to live with everyday for the rest of our lives.

Hey Jevan,

Something I learned by going to a workshop called "Lose It For Life", which is dealing with the emotional side of eating----When you feel like you've failed like you did last night, all you can do now is "Do The Next Right Thing!!" If you dwell on your binge, you feel bad, you will binge again, and you will get back into a horrible cycle of binging. I know. I've been there preop and hope I never get to that point again.

Just do the next right thing! It will get you off of a bad cycle. What is doing the next right thing for you? For each person it may be different, but probably going back to eating 3 meals a day. Protein levels high. Lots of water. Working out. You can do it! You don't have to dwell on your slip. You can do this! Don't let last night determine how successful you will be over the next week. Just do the next right thing and move forward, my friend!

If you are interested...check out www.newlife.com and click on their information about "Lose It For Life". Good stuff.

Jevan,

You've gotten good sound advice from Lisa and Kitty. Yes, you blew it. No mincing words. BUT you only blew it for last night! Don't give up on yourself because of one night of messing up. The important thing is that you have recognized what you did. You are taking ownership of your mistake and making yourself accountable by your post.

In order to get control once again go back to what you know is right. Just like Kitty said. Keep a journal of what you are eating, how you are feeling, what exercise you are doing. Write it all down. Then come back to us and let us know how things are going. Do it DAILY! Make yourself accountable to us for the choices you are making. Also, brainstorm what things you can do when a situation like last night comes up again. I'm sure this won't be the last time you have to get a major paper in. Its not the last time you will have to pull an all-nighter. Its not the last time you will feel stressed. Know how you will handle those situations when they arise. Be prepared!

Hang in there and know that we are here to help you.

Yes Jevan - you WILL conquer this. I can certainly understand how you feel, I had the same stress working on my masters degree! From a school point of view, it sounds like you need to work on your time management. Trying to pull an all-nighter with a paper is no way to go through life! Start doing some planning so you won't have this avoidable stress. Jeez, life can be stressful enough without us adding to it.

Now, as for your eating binge - it's done, it's over with, learn from it and move on. The only time you fail is if you quit. On this forum, I have yet to meet a quitter. Especially you Jevan, your 20 years old, to most of us your a "kid". Your also one smart kid for doing what you have done - recognizing the problem with your weight and taking the initiative to do something about it. Perhaps your not aware of it, but you've always been a winner. How? You made a mistake, recognized it, and most of all, asked for help. Using resources available to you. How many people do you know who want help, it's right in front of them, yet they can't see it?

Jevan, I'm really proud for you. You made a very difficult and life changing decision to have wls, and now your doing the smart thing by recognizing the problem and dealiing with it.

Keep it up kid, your doing great!
