Default portion sizes at 10 monthes out

Hi I was hoping someone could give me a reality check as to "how much" should I be eating at 10 monthes out. I just finished a south beach dinner for lunch it was beef tips and broc w/ cheese. Usually when faced w/ a meal such as this I cook it and immediately put 1/2 in a container (to keep me from over eating and to help me rationalize the financial expenditure of a 4 dollar tv dinner.) Well I ate all the broc w/ cheese and 1/2 the beef stuff. The broc was maybe 1/3 cup???

It breaks down to: 240 cal 26 protein and 1 broc w/ cheese. for the whole meal, so I figure 175 calories for my portion 17 proteins.

So does this seem mathmatically correct?

And is this a good protein and calorie goal to aim for?????

I know if I don't eat my protein first to plug everything in I can eat more than other times. I can't finish a whole TV dinner yet but I would think at 10 mon that should be ok I am only 6 mon. just be careful don't eat until you hurt only eat what your body needs. Easy for me to say!

I can eat an entire lean cuisine spa at just over a year out, have been able to do this at about 10 months. As many told me before when I questioned the same thing, that volume is different than weight. ie: 4oz of meat or fish vs. a cup of food. I eat 3-4 oz of meat at a meal and 2 veggies and maybe a few bites of rice/potato/whole wheat pasta. I eyeball all my meals to a cup, a cup and half at the very most and thats if it had salad or fruit type products in it. I really look at a serving size of products and gauge on that. If I eat chili with meat and beans, its one cup max. Some days I seem to have a bigger pouch than others. I would think at 10 months out, you could eat a whole south beach diet dinner.

Remember though, dont eat longer than 15-20 mins at a time. Just because you can eat a whole dinner doesnt mean you should. Only if you eat it in 20 mins.

thanks for the reminder Bridget....I have developed a wonderful habit post op of automatically scooping everything that is in excess....into a leftover container so I don't try to eat it just because it is on my plate. I also use 4 oz yogurt cups to eat out of for portion control.

I was just wondering "how much" and what is a good number to aim for as I don't really eat much or even have the desire to eat I think I have to go back to square one of setting a clock and counting etc.

Lisa and I had surgery on the same day and my portion sizes are pretty much as hers. What I can tell you is that at 10 months my nutritionist told me to also look at the amount of calories I was taking in. She had me aiming for 1000-1200 cal. with 60-80 grms of protein. It doesn't sound like you are eating too much to me. Bridget is right about not taking too long to eat. The longer you sit there the more you will be able to eat. I usually try to keep my meals to about 20 min. I look at what is considered a normal portion size that is listed on the package and go by that. I usually eat about 3-4 oz of meat, 1/3 cup of vegetables and a couple bites of rice or potato. If it is things like soup or chili? I eat about 1-1 1/2 cups.
