Hey Lisa, I'm allergic to Celebrex too!!

I've had both ACLs reconstructed - and would do it again in a heartbeat. I had patellar tendon autographs (where they use the center of my own tendon) - which is a bit harder to rehab from , but I have been totally happy with the surgeries. Since the surgeries, I've been able to kickbox, do TKD and run . . . Before I had surgery, my knees were so unstable that I was afraid to go down stairs one foot at a time. I also have a partial menisectomy b/c of a miniscus tear . .. but I'm downright awesome in TKD now, so that didn't stop my jumping, kicking or punching!!!

If you want any info on my surgeries, PM me - I'd be glad to relate any info I have.

They can do recons outpatient here is you use an allograph. I chose the autograph due to the success rate with athletes, but now that I'm over 40, I'd choose the allograph if the need for surgery presented itself.

ouch! I have had 3 knee surgeies myself - both knees are bad ... the surgeries have helped although the knees will never do what they used to ... but if you follow thru on your physical therapy you will hopefully get enough recovery to allow you to do the importsnt things in life

good luck

Lisa... did they tell you only six weeks of PT? That's not much... at least not to get the knee good and stable again. We typically see post-ACLs for at LEAST two months, usually three, and even four for higher-functioning athletes (high school and college kids, and adults in sports). Don't let them discharge you too early!

Well hon. I'm in the same boat. Except I have a torn PCL!! I have a surgery date of 5/18. I've been dealing with it since october/november. I wear a brace everyday. It has helped. I just try not to squat down and NEVER get on my knees (poor Tim. lol ). I figured, if I'm going to be out of work, I may as well be out while it is warmer out. Of course, in the mean time I was out for 5+ weeks cuz of my back anyway when it was cold. Figures.
Good luck hon. Maybe we can be rehab buddies online. lol The no NSAID thing is going to suck though man.

Default Oh poo!

Went through this with hubby - ACL replacement and scar tissue removal orthoscopically. He is actually pretty good now - and he's about 70 pounds overweight. He has about a 10% permanent disability in his knee, but again, I think that is related to his weight.

You'll do better I bet - and physical therapy, if you do what they tell you to - really helps. I am starting to believe I will run again one day! I am so much better after only two weeks!

But back to you - sorry - it sucks, but it has an ending point. You can feel sorry for yourself as long as you need to, but then you'll do your thing, get through it, recover and just remember what a pain it was. It'll be over pretty soon.

We'er here for you!
