Inches, clothes and high expectations
Are my expectations too high?
I am losing weight and the numbers on the scale are going down. Most days that is enough to satisy me. But last night I did some measuring so that I could order some new bras and a couple of pairs of pants. I am down about 49 pounds which is a lot. I am close to being halfway to my goal. I thought that would be better reflected in the clothes sizes.
I thought I would have lost more than 2 sizes of clothes by now. I know that is a lot of weight gone but looking at the catalog and the sizes I got depressed and frustrated. I keep thinking well I only lost water weight and I am my body is really not changing. I know I didn't have 49 lbs of water weight.
My husband says he notices it most in my fast and around my ribs. That is great but I kind of wanted my stomach, butt and hips to get smaller as well.
I know in my head that I am being unrealistic but when I go to order clothes not much smaller than I had pre-op I get mad.
I know a lot of people said they felt like they were melting out of their clothes and their clothes were hanging off of them. I just don't feel that way.
I am eating around 800 -900 calories a day. I eat 60 -70 grams protein. I don't really eat much in the way of carbs. I keep my fat intake to 25 -30% of my daily caloric intake. I still can't do much other than protein.
I have been exercising 5 days a week for the last 3 weeks. Doing mostly the exercise bike but also combining that with the exercise bands and balls to improve strength.
I am a pear and know that my stomach, hips and butt will be the last to really go. A few weeks ago, I was not thinking about clothing sizes and inches the only thing that mattered was the number on the scale, now I want both. How long before I see results in the inches and clothes?
Sorry just ranting. sometimes I just need to see in writing how stupid I sound.

The first 60-75 pounds barely made a dent. No one even noticed I had lost weight.I didn't need new clothes as much as my old ones were not fitting properly to start and now I wore them well. The fabrics are so stretchy etc. in the larger sizes that they are very adjustable to a 50 pound weight loss. I even wore the same clothes through two pregnancies since they stretch. You are almost at the point where things change. Soon every 15-20 pounds will mean new clothes and once you are below 200, each 10-12 pounds is another size down. It is a greater percentage of your total body weight.
When buying new bras, get ones with a tight band as the band changes faster than the cup size.
It will happen for you. You are doing great

Oh oh ... I see my future in you.
I'll betcha I'll be having the same complaint ... in about 5 minutes. I think we have an idea in our own heads of how we should look at a certain weight and if it's not there ... we are dissappointed.
At last count I was down 24 pounds and except for a couple of friends NOONE can see the difference. None of my co-workers can see a thing.
DyAnn is a marvel ... listen her.
She's right. Me. I'm still wearing the same small wardrobe of big loose tops and black stretchy pants and it's gonna stay that way (I can tell for at least another 30 pounds)
Have faith. (Listen to me HA HA!! giving other folks encouragment when I need THEM to give ME encouragement!!!! )
Ohhh we're allllll having a hard ride on this bumpy road!!!!

I also expected to be falling out of my clothes after surgery, but the reality was, I was pretty much TOO FAT for the clothes I WAS wearing-- so the first big amount of "shrinkage" just meant that I began to PROPERLY fit into my clothes again. Now I am down 50 lbs., and it's finally time to start going down some sizes.
On a side note, if you are only taking in 800-900 calories and you're exercising 5 times a week, it could be that you aren't getting in ENOUGH calories. Our program nutritionist doesn't want us getting in less than 800 calories a day, and you're very close to that. So maybe that has something to do with things...

This is such good info - it's good to see my future self! I know that I will be just like you and if you are anything like me, you had a few clothes in your closet that were just a little tight - that you can now wear. I think that I have enough clothes that I can't wear anymore in varying sizes - I think that I can last quite a while before I have to buy new ones. I just hope that I can hold myself back from buying any more - it's been a long time since I bought anything since I've had to wait so long. You're doing great! Keep up the good work!

Dyann is right! (Isn't she always? ) I had mine 2/12. I know I've lost 20at least , but I refuse to weigh myself. Some of my biggest clothes- the sweats, of course!- are now starting to get a bit loose. My fiance noticed that my denim coat hangs a bit instead of fitting snugly. That's about it. Good thing is- most of my denim is those denim leggings? As they start to get looser, they just look like regular denim, if you can't see the waist! So, I get 2 or 3 sizes out of one pair! Cool, huh?

Angie - we started at similar weights - and I can tell you that for me, I didn't go down in size rapidly until I was under 200. I think Dyann is right about the stretch and plus sizing. You can fluctuate 25 pounds and still wear the same outfits!! NOW, no way could I do that. 25 pounds ago, I solidly wore a size 8, now I'm a 6 or 4 for most things. When I started, I could wear the same size 20w pants after a 30 pound loss. I also had people that didn't comment on my first 60 pound of loss . . . I thought that was freaky - then suddenly I hit 75 pounds lost and people in my building started to make comments . . . It's weird. So, hang in there, and don't buy too much at this size.

I can totally relate! I have not told anyone about my gbp! No one said anything until I hit the 50 pound mark. It is totally weird. I guess I carry my weight all over so to lose 20-30 pounds, didn't really matter. I get lots of little comments now and again. Wait until I take these jeans and sweatshirts off when spring arrives. I am sure to hear it then. Try not to get discouraged! I felt the same way, especially when you can tell. Hang in there, the weight will come off!
